Well yeah. Why didn't you do that? They did make a rally version of the TC3 and we even have a guy in our club who competes with one.

Well now you have two rally cars.

The TB01 when it came out as a rally car used to come with the cover. The kit I received did not have it so I tracked down a reproduction from Team Blue Groove on ebay. There are also some original ones floating around, but cost a little bit more. The cover velcros to the sides of the chassis and fits perfectly over the entire chassis keeping dirt and debris out.

Here's a idea I found to help with Dirt. Should be some what easy to make.

Yep it did with both of mine and both of Rodney's and it is listed in the instructions to go in that place.

But because the chassis is open on the bottom of the motor Rodney got some associated chassis protector to cover the hole under the motor. The hole would help with cooling, but water splashes into the chassis there and the foam piece gets soaked and stays wet. Now that the hole is covered it keeps everything out, now checking temperatures is going to be a little bit more important with the inclosed environment the electronics are in.

Good to know on the cover.
I was thinking that was a big ol' honkin' hole in the chassis.

wow!!! its nice to see some using that pig for ralley!... its burtally strong i turned my subie prototype into a drifter.. the only week point in the car i have seen is the cassis. that it flexs to point that it chews on the plastic drive shaft gears. but if you get a ralley kit and run all the metal drive line stuff who is gona care about the chassis flex.

The TB01 was an onroad car before aimed at Rally (at least 90% of its parts), so it drives and sets up like an on-road car. Makes setting it up easier.

The DF03ra is a 4wd buggy with narrow arms, its needed set up is very different than that of an on-road car.

Both nice chassis's though so you can't go wrong either way. I just prefer ball diffs to gear diffs.

Thanks for reiterating.

Actually 90% of the parts came from the Nitro TGX, to the TB01, yes it was built to be a car, but it was quickly realized it was more suited to be a rally car then a touring car, which is why it comes with front buggy shocks. Because of the TB01s fate Tamiya made the TB02, TB03, TB04,and TB05 which are on road specific vehicles. Granted the TB02 has some characteristic suited for rally the TB01 is a better platform. The reason the TB01 lived for nearly 10 years is because of rally.

The DF03RA is not just narrow A arms, but actual touring car arms with TT01 dog bones, shock towers, shocks, smaller spur gear cover, smaller spur, etc.

As I have said before if you put a brushless motor to the ball diffs of the DF03RA you will melt the rear diff down, no way around it. There may be more tuning available for ball differentials, but they can not handle the power like a gear diff can. I know because I have gone through several diffs as have several people I know who have DF03RAs.

If you read the threads You would notice I have said all of this before. You may have ok luck with the ball diffs, but drive it a couple times a week for a couple years with a 5700 or 3500kv motor and let me know how it works out.

Both are solid and durable platforms once properly modified, but really there is not much comparison, when you are looking to build something tough enough to take the abuse of rally and still have really good handling characteristics.

The TB01 is a better driving car and just as durable, if not more. There are no two ways about it.

Really impressed with the stoutness of this kit, just buttoning up the last few details and fiddly things on my 1st tb-01.

Thank you for the tips and some hints as I was building TY I think I missed one thing in my parts order...the sway bars Already got a traction roll or 2 out of the way...good thing I had a beater touring car body on it Can't wait for the lipo packs to arrive.

No worries Stan. Mine still traction rolls even with the sway bars, but it is a little bit better. If the bend was not so complicated I would have made a couple different thicknesses to try out already. Maybe when I am not being lazy I will make some.
