So here are the lights all wired up. I used two 3mm button head screws to hold it in place with a small hole in the grill to run the wire into the body. Each LED is suppose to be 7,000... something ( I forgot ). The LEDs are rated for 3.6 volts each (I think). So I wired in a 470 ohm resistor and it seems to be working with me plugging a 3 cell lipo into the harness. Thats about all I know. |

Since I'm just now getting into rally and don't know a lot of what goes on in the 1:1 world. Has anyone used the rigid type LED light bars on these cars? I got the VW body but haven't started the build because I'm still waiting on my last ebay order and I'm out of town most of the week now |

Hey Turtle I've been drooling over a new rally kit to build. I've never been a big fan of belt driven cars or trucks, but I do like the XV-01 chassis layout to over look the belt drive. I've decided against HPI's WR8 KB Flux as it's not really scale rallying off-roading except for gymkhana which isn't my thing for rallying. So I've narrowed it down between the XV-01 or the Kyosho DRX VE. Both are neck and neck but I am leaning on the XV-01 because it's a kit and the DRX VE is an RTR with none of the electronics I plan on using. Also the Kyosho being an odd ball 1/9 makes the body choices limited as well as tires/wheels. I love my DF-03Ra's and I run Sidewinders in them with 4600kv 2pole Castle motors with slipper clutch and heat sink bars as the only upgrades along with scale lighting. Should I look into the XV-01 or the XV-01 Pro IF compaing to the Kyosho for $400? Or is the pro version not really necessary if I'm just playing around? the only option I plan on getting at the moment is the slipper clutch. Planning on running a MMP w/Tekin Pro4 4600kv or MMP w/1410 3800kv 4pole. Would this be too much for the XV-01? Tamiya plastics, alloys, and "steel" although strong always worries me! |

I was debating and finally went with the Pro kit. I don't see the point of buying the basic kit and then upgrade that. I love my DF03ra also, but the Xv01 is so much nicer to drive. I haven't had much time with it, but I like the way it handles and drives compared to the DF03ra. Still, both are great and fun cars. I also run a Castle 5700kv in both cars and they are a nice match for them. |

a question arise... do you keep ke bearings (in the differentials + wheels + etc) under maintenance? or did you just took everything apart after each other run on the track (for the bearings)? I haven't take mine apart (yet), I just clean the whole thing occasionally... thanks in advance |

Under brushless power and off-road conditions no bearings on earth whether shielded or rubber sealed will ever be truly clean. Not hard at all to clean or replace bearings! Here's the rest: 1. Ball diffs wear out super fast if you have tons of power like I did. 2. The top plastic transmission plate that locks down all your drive gears and bearings will eventually loosen themselves so use a bit of CA and check before each run. 3. Doggie bones a tad too short unless you do minor mods to the rear camber links other wise under full compression off a jump or bad landing there goes your black doggie bone into the dirt! BUT having said that the DF-03Ra is still a very solid true 1/10 buggy turned rally not a touring car turned rally which makes handling a lot better. My buddies Lancia rally converted from a TT-01E can't hang with my DF-03Ra lol. Last edited by alexchen86; 05-06-2013 at 01:18 AM.

Oh and a big thanks to Turtle for answering all my questions! Looks like I have a hard choice to make now. 1. XV-01 Pro or the regular 2. Vattera Twin Hammers 3. Funding more money into my new high speed 1.9r EB Bronco SCX10 axled Wraith beast with a Tekin Pro4 3500HD... Why can't money just grow on trees?! OH yeah I have a brand new SC8.2e on the way too sometime this week. $511 for a brand new kit is hard to beat..... |

Don't know if this is new info or not but I figure some if not all of yall hate those freaking sponsor decals to setup a decent true to scale livery.... Well Asia Tees is offering free shipping on $30 or more purchases on prepainted officially licensed rally bodies 190mm...typically a Tamiya rally body is already close to $35-40 minimum plus your paint and time to attach the decals/mirrors....reasonably priced IMO plus they have light buckets too! I just ordered a subbie body I'll try out when it gets here to see if it's any good. http://www.asiatees.com/ask?descript..._location=blog |

So much so that I have jumped it off 10' jumps at a BMX track, taken it to the local race track and kept up with an Associated b4, even over jumps. Done some gnarly cartwheels that would have destroyed most other cars, and the XV-01 keeps coming back for more. The only "downfall" I see is that it's very low ground clearance for a "track". But for scale rally driving, it's the best. That's all assuming you're talking about the XV-01, not the TT-01. Since this is an XV-01 thread.

| Re: Turtle's Modified XV-01 Of course a TT01 wouldn't be able to keep up. It's a TT01, no matter what mods you do to it. And you said it yourself, the DF03 is a converted buggy, not initially designed to be a rally car, where a XV-01 is a purpose built rally car (now with TC and Trucks built off it)

Thats just me, and there are people who are pretty anal about cleaning, but I don't see much of a point when every time I drive it its gets dirty. Hope that helps! *As for the rest: It seems a strange tangent and seems like it is in the wrong thread...

So I got the Tamiya Volkswagen Golf body in the other day. Definitely not a rally body. But I had faith in my scissors and cut off all the silly stuff that killed the clearance. It fits snuggly against the front bumper and the inner fenders, but it does fit, just barely. I am not sure how I feel about this body yet. It almost seems like it is 12th scale. I really think this particular body should be 200mm. The way I see it it is suppose to be a wide body version of a Golf, but kind of comes off as a narrowed cab with extended wheel arches. I will paint it up in the next couple of weeks and see what I think of it then... |

I was thinking of getting that body to use on my Touring Car in our GT class. You certainly have hacked into it there. Will be interesting to se how it paints up.

Great, that's the body I got for mine. I guess I'll have to take a closer look at it after the kit is built. From my phone using my fingers. |
