Yep, both the Citroen and the Ford bodies are from Monkeyracing.ze.

Got some parts in today.






Not sure these are made for 1.9 wheels... Maybe 1.7s...

Mounted on Tamiya 1.9 rims. And compared to Tamiya rally blocks.


Set with a narrower wheel.

I got these tires for ice racing, but they are really soft. It might take a couple months for me to report back on these.


Some extra parts, one pack of reinforced parts, rear CVDs, and rear metal knuckles.




Hopefully sometime this week I will have time to start installing parts.

Tracked down some +3mm offset wheels that are rally-ish.


The +3mm offset looks to fit the MR bodies nicely.







+2mm tamiya wheels with rally blocks on the right and +3mm HPI wheels with Hardcore racing tires on the left.






I ordered one more set of the black ones and that seems to be all I can find, but the same ebay shop has 10 more pairs for anyone wanting the white ones.

If some of you followed the Rally tire thread you will know these tires got tracked down.


I was originally told about these by Monkey Racing and the original manufacture name of ARP, posted on RCC and find that in the UK they go by the name Fastrax. Found a UK store for them and ordered them up.

Really good looking tires IMO.








Now based on first impressions (and what others have mentioned) I think the Rally Dash will be most suited to extreme hardpack dirt and loose tarmac. While I can see the Rally Dash tires doing really well on mostly tarmac surfaces.
And while both kinds of tires say they are both "blue compound" the Rally square tires are considerably softer then the Rally Dash tires.

One of these days soon I will stop collecting parts and actually run them.

Finally got some time to work on the XV-01.

First I got the rear CVDs put together, really simple and as a complete package come with a few extra parts. Then I took the stock rear knuckles off and added the new metal ones. Its so nice to be rid of the goofy plastic ones. And finally pulled out the pack of rubber sealed bearings I have had for a couple months. I sprayed the joint of the CVDs and the bearings with motorcycle chain lube, as it is suppose to resist dirt and provide a protective coating.


Back to the differential, this tear down started because I lost 4WD last weekend, so I opened up the rear end and found everything looking pretty good. Both gears where in perfect shape, but the outputs were very sloppy, so I swapped the diff out for another one I had sitting around and put fresh spider gears in it. Some fresh 3K weight topped it off.

Cleaned it inside and out and put it back together. The aluminum pulley is starting to show some wear, so I will replace it in the next couple of months.



After that it was time to remove more slop from the rear end, by replacing the last of stock ball ends. These Traxxas 2742X rod ends are also all over the front end.




To get these to fit I used the stock plastic rear knuckle spacers on the inside and a 3mm nut on the knuckle to space it back enough to clear the sway bar.


All on and freely moving. I had to shave a little off the rod end closest to the belt, but that was it.



While I was rebuilding the rear end I rebuilt the rear shocks. They didn't leak a drop, but were pretty filthy. Some fresh 30 weight went in and they were good to go. I also swapped out the brass fittings on the bottoms of the shocks as they also lead to a lot of play. I replaced them with some shrink tube (3 layers of it snug on the screw).




After all this, the new spider gears feel a little crunchy, I am hoping they break in after a pack or two. Next up is rebuilding the front as the lack of 4WD issue is still present.

Rebuilt the front end a couple days ago.


I found out I blew out the pin slot on this gear again, but I figured out why this time. The spacer that sits on the shaft next to the pin slotted into the pin. So I flipped it and it should last a little while longer.


New underchassis/underbody on.


Entire car rebuilt and ready for this weekends race.


Body is about ready, hoping to pick up the last of the decals before sunday's race.

Is that just thick lexan? Or styrene? For the underbody chassis protector?

The underbody is .75mm black styrene, the under chassis is Team Associated chassis protector, it is transparent and has adhesive on one side.

It's not lexan, it's Team Associated chassis protector, same stuff I have had on the car for a year.

Same stuff here, posted last March, I just used a bigger piece.

Great job on the car! Do the derbis/dirt gards really help keep pebbles etc out of the chassis? They seem a little small... For my hpi mini trophy, I made a custom underbody out of plastic folders to create tight fender/wheel wells for the front and rear. Maybe the same can be done for the xv01 chassis.

They really do, between the rubber inside the wheel wells, the underbody and the under chassis protection nothing really gets in the car. But placement is key.

These are the specs on the shocks I am running.
Rears
Eye to eye: 69mm
Stroke (shaft travel range): 14mm
Spring length: 43mm
Diameter: 11mm

Front
Eye to eye: 58mm
Stroke: 13mm

Guys in our local club run the Gmade shocks with similar dimensions. I think Losi Mini 8 shocks for the rear are the same length as well. For me The rear shocks are off of a Tamiya 12th scale rear wheel drive truck, the Nissan titan I believe, my front shocks came off of a Tamiya TB-01. More importantly is the spring rate, I run cut down Losi black springs in the rear (1.2lb rate I believe) and Losi white springs in the front (1.75lb rate).

The longer damper kit is a cool idea, but it can be done with the stock towers to a degree, at least with the rear it can. The front I don't see the purpose, it will raise the body so high that it will look kinda goofy. But I really won't know till I get my hands on it.

The springs I mentioned above with a threaded metal body shock with a ti-nitrade shaft. My top choice (if the clearances are correct) would be the Losi Mini 8 front shocks and then whatever fits the dimensions I listed for the fronts (+ a couple mm).

Yes I did. I love that body too! But I don't think I have the heart to paint it. So it will probably go on the chopping block to pay for more practical things.

I had the same thing happen to the back of mine with that same little gear, I ended up putting some washers in there to shim it, as it was pulling the pin away from the gear and causing it to strip out. Soon as I did that it stopped nuking that little gear.

I have nuked 3 of those already probably time to shim it up.
