Default Kyosho DRX Ford Fiesta

I got my first rally car about 3-4 years ago, it was a fun little 1/10 scale car, but I immediately thought that it was too small. I always wanted someone to make a 1/8 scale rally car, with a true on and off road capability. I had lost interest in the 1/10 rally cars, so I was pretty excited when I saw that some 1/8 scale cars were hitting the market, I knew I had to have one.

After reading all the positive reviews about the Kyosho DRX, I decided that was the rally car for me.

Here's a short vid of my first run, with the stock set-up.

First run with the Kyosho DRX VE - YouTube

Here it is in it's stock setup, after a little dirt running.

Here it is with high grip tarmac tires. They grip so well, it wouldn't brake loose even with a 3s battery.

Close-up of the Pro-Line Road Rage tires, mounted on stock DRX wheels.

A couple of my RC buddies and I got out this weekend for a little rally run with some DRXs. We all commented on how driving these cars was the most fun we've had with any of our rc stuff in a long time.

Here's some video, and some captures from the video.

It's not a rally until a photographer almost gets killed.

I said the exact same thing after driving my DRX for 10 minutes

Great pictures.

Very nice. You planning on running anything underneath to keep the junk out?

Yep, side guards and a body for a dust cover are on the way. I'll also be adding extra diff gears, but I'm waiting for someone to have diff gaskets in stock.

Just FYI on my experiences.
With the MP9 side guards and MP9 body my DRX ESC will temp out after 5-10 minutes of "track" driving at 60% throttle EPA on 3S. I even drilled some 3/16" holes in front of the ESC to get some air moving but didn't help. I can pull the MP9 underbody off and run a full 5000mah 3S pack without it shutting down. Guess as usual, with the good comes the bad.

Wow, that's a little surprising. Must be the 3s battery because that's my Citreon in the pic's and I'm running the stock Orion system on 2s with the cover and side guards and the only time I shut it down was to change battery's.

It wasn't even close to overheating and we were running these things straight thru for a good hour and a half.

Pic's turned out real nice Steve! Can't wait for the next time!

I installed the side guards and dust cover body. I ran 2 packs (4000 mah 3s) through it today, and it did not shut down. It was only about 65 degrees out. The esc did get warm, and the motor was pretty hot, but not too bad. I will be getting a motor heat sink and fan, and look into a way to vent the dust cover.

Anyway, I was out practicing running around some cones I put out in a baseball infield, and I had a great time. I'll say it again, this cars is really fun to drive.
