Wow, that must have been so much fun. No frozen lakes where I live. Any video to share?

Yeah Cottonwood Lake kicks ass. We play hockey there too. No video from today. It's fun but I'd need some spiked tires to really have any traction out there.

Today was the CRC race #3. Full stage rally. We went out and back on a 4 season rally stage course. There was snow, ice, dirt, and tarmac. It was super fun. After pics. |

I've been needed to make a decent chassis cover for a while. Starting now with a spare 1/16 truck body. I ordered some gmade 62mm shocks, undercover/chassis protector thing, and some other spare things. I'm hoping I can find the time to give this car a full tear down and clean. It is really dirty. |

This is what I came up with today in terms of an under body cover. It looks dumb but I think it'll work pretty well. It's held on with two rubber bands looped around the base of the body mounts. It's pretty easy to get on and off. And the rubber bike tubes kind of give it a glove fit on the chassis.

The CRC season has been rough on the stock bearings. I got a new set in the mail the other day and I'm replacing all the wheel hub bearings. New shocks built up. I've always liked to use those axial rubber shock mounts (part # AXA1356)

Hey, how are aluminum arms going for you? id be worried theyd just bend and waste the extra money it takes to buy them over new plastic arms. and two, im looking at those same shocks for my xv-01, make sure to share how they preform . but anyways, awesome car!

I haven't had any bending/damage issues with the AL arms. I always have the stock ones if one of these does bend on me though. I don't think they add any performance value, but they're nice to look at and when I was buying this car I tried to get all the "cool" parts I could.

New shocks mounted up. I need to work on them a bit. I think it's riding a little high to be within CRC specs... I'll try to update that so I'm within the rules. I used the bad horsie shock covers (generic size small). Gotta love those things... These G made shocks are a tight fit in the front. On one side they almost hit the spur cover, and on the other they're pretty close to the slipper nut/bolt. They feel nice though. Each corner has a smooth feel. So this was basically a full tear down and rebuild since event #3. That tarmac portion of the race really made me want to inspect everything. Who the hell designed that anyway?!?! I noticed that the AL arms worked a little loose in the hinge pin area. I used an extra spacer on the hinge pin (part #NN23). So basically two NN23s on each arm now. Things feel better. Has anyone else noticed the arms having some play on the hinge pin? Maybe this is just an issue with the AL arms? Currently running 48p 77/27. HPI wheels right? Looks like it's time for some proper rally wheels from Tamiya. |

What tamiya wheel do you recommend? I just searched the rally section for a best wheels thread and nothing came up... Maybe we should start one?

You run more offset then I do... But I don't know any rally wheels that are more then +2 from Tamiya, most of their wheels are +0. Which is great for Tamiya bodies, but the MR bodies we are running are almost 10mm wider then Tamiya... So umm... Not sure. I have been looking around for some good looking wheels with more offset lately and have not come up with much... But I am kind of a Tamiya whore, some my opinion is biased. I bet we could look into some longer outer CV shafts for the XV-01 and run wider hexs, that way we could get away with some +2 or even +0 wheels... Let me see what I got sitting around.
