Out of my element.. 3s motor choices?

Just bought a tc3 to rallify and as the postman brings my piece after piece, the one thing I haven't ordered is a motor.

Seems most of the interwebs are running 2s batteries and a brushless motor in the 4-5000kv range. I have a bunch of 3s batteries for my crawler so I don't intend to buy any 2s but that leaves me wondering on what I should choose for the tc3's motor.

I don't need to go 80mph... but I would like to be able to take it to the track and be more than just an obstacle!

At this point I'm thinking a 4-6pole labeled around 2500kv? Or should I go lower into the 2000s? Or higher

I've no idea.

Please give me some advice! "thumbsup"

(FWIW the weakest batteries I've got are 2200mah45-90c so I think I'm good there and I'm probably going to buy a hobbywing sc8 for this thing, got a MMP as well)

Tekin pro4 3300 on 3S should be more than enough for rally, even with the larger scale ones.

I agree somewhere around 3000kv will be a good place to be.

Thanks for the responses guys. Really looking forward to getting this thing moving under its own power.

I will suggest that if running 3s and planning on actually racing the car, to get a 17.5 motor, I am partial to tacon and gforce motors, and if you wait til next week you can try out the new gforce 17.5 in my tc... they are only 1800ish kv but on 11 volts it will move the car plenty fast enough that you wont get bored. besides- middle river and mbrc have 17.5 rule for touring car/rally motor mandate

I had real good luck with my tb01 running a tacon motor. It was higher kV(can't remember what tho) 2s was a good time and 3s was Ridiculous! Punch it from 2/3 throttle and it would start to float(on pavement, the front end) it was a blast in p gravel and dirt tho!

If you want to try out a few different motors. Tacon is the way to go. Cheap motors that put out power. Just get a good esc and have fun testing.

when picking out components I suggest looking at all the angles before plunking down the credit card... if you want to race, 17.5.. if you want fast, then get something in the 35-4000 kv range that is 4s safe and an esc in the 80-120 amp range.

if you go for the race option, I will aim you toward the hobbyking 35a esc Hobby King 35A Sensored/Sensorless Car ESC (1:10/1:12) (USA warehouse) and the gforce Value Hobby R/C Hobby Store (Addison, Illinois): GForce 3650 Sensored Brushless Inrunner Motor

if all out top speed is where you are going then the hobbyking sc8 is awesome, I have one in my sct, and the tacon 9t 3930kv Tacon 3650-9T Brushless Motor 3930KV for 1/10th On-Road RC Car is a ripper! that combo should be capable of 55-60 ish on 3s. last time I had that combo in a car was my ford focus/kyosho tf chassis and it was too much. at 3/4 throttle it would break the tires loose at any speed and would go fast enough to actually lift the front so bad it would parachute and float/crash.

like I said, test drive mine next time we go to gunpowder and then drive another one with more power, I have 20 to pick from...

just don't waste the money buying the wrong setup for what you want.

have you considered running your esc out of the truck and a silver can brushed motor with a 3s, and getting a b/l setup for the truck til you figure out if you wanna race it or just backyard track/bash with the rally car?
