Default WR8 Project

Back in the early 2000's I had a Tamiya 2002 Subaru Rally car and never did much with it and parted it out and ever since then I've wanted another rally car, and for the past few years I've debated on what to get but always liked the HPI WR8. Well recently I came across a great deal and couldn't pass it up for this used WR8. But first I needed to get a radio since it didn't come with one in the deal and it was going to need new tires soon. So I got a set of new tarmac D compound tires and rims and off-road wheels and tires too and after the purchase of the car it's self I had to go cheap on the radio and I got a Turnigy GTX3.

Finally got the car out on the dirt with the off-road tires. Couldn't really tell if they helped much compared to the tarmac tires that came on the car because of the fine dirt on the baseball diamond was like driving on talkin powder. Regardless it was fun non the less.

The car is completely stock except rims / tires and the crapy radio that I'm now having range issues with after it working completely fine after a week a d now only working from about 30 feet away, but that's another story. Anyway I'm running a Turnigy 3S 4000 mah 40c Lipo. Future plans are to get a clear Fiesta body to do a custom paint job on, new steering servo and probably a radio. I'm open minded to any and all suggestions for any improvements I could do to this !

First video of it running, nothing special, just bashing around on a baseball diamond.

Nice pics. I just picked up one of these things and I am blown away by how fast they are. A blast to drive.

Try the Sanwa mx-v for a radio. Feels good, had most of the features that matter and only $85 on eBay...

we have a group of 3 people that have them.. i m thinking of expanding the rally course to accept 1/8 scale rally cars..
HPI flux WR8 has been around for a while.. they had a 3.0 nitro then removed it then brought it back .

Its heavy duty! the tires are expensive and body is too.. when time comes to replacing it.

The HPI TF-40 radio and rf-40 receiver that came with my WR8 is one of the few RTR radios that I haven't upgraded.
Plus they are a cheap 2.4 if you are looking for a low priced radio set up.

Mine came with some hobby king radio that I'll be giving to my son for his new TT-02. I've got a nice DX3S that'll handle all my needs.

I cannot imagine putting a 4s in that thing. It runs like a scalded dog with a 3s. The esc was overheating like crazy, too. The one I got has a Flux2 Reloaded instead of the Vapor that normally comes with it. Not sure about which is better.

I agree, 3s is stupid fast in one of these.
Much easier to control on 2s.

I went a little nutty with my WR8 over the last few months. I converted it to on road for a bit and messed with the suspension.
Here are some pictures of the conversion- ON-Road WR8 Project! - Imgur

And yes I'd say it is stupid fast... 3s, 3800kv, mmp, 20t pinion
