| Best way to mount Gmade shocks on XV-01
Have you guys running Gmade shocks figured out some good way to mount them (in terms of studs/spacers/screws needed) on long damper stays? I guess that lower part is easy - it should be M3 6.8mm ball stud, maybe with a tiny spacer. I'm more curious about the top, as I can't figure out what ball stud could possibly fit. It is definitely not 6.8mm. When I measure the bushing that came with the shock, it has 6mm. I have bunch of traxxas 5.8mm ball studs, those are obviously too small, and I can't find anything between 5.8 and 6.8. Or should I just use the bushing and some spacers? I mean - it will probably work, but it will be ugly and probably not functioning that well over longer period of time... Last edited by haplm; 09-08-2016 at 04:28 AM. |

OK, so for the record, I'm going to answer my own question. For now, I have decided to mount the shocks using the plastic bushings, since I wasn't able to find anything better which I could get in time. Besides those bushings, one also needs some spacers (NN a V trees from the kit can help), and some screws (including unusually long 25mm ones). Mounting the rear shock is easy. Couple spacers, screws <20mm, and it is done: Front is little trickier. The shock has to be pushed forward, so it doesn't hit body posts. On the inside, it has to be pushed as far as possible not to hit motor cover, and on a-arm, it must not hit side of the arm. In the other words, one needs a lot of spacers and long screws: In the meantime, I have finally found 6mm Alu Ball Nut. Ironically, it is produced by Tamiya, and discontinued. However, few shops still have some stock. Gmade and Tamiya are producing some nice looking spacers. Specifically this is what I have ordered: Tamiya (#53639) 6mm Alum. Ball Nut ( Gmade JunFac M3 Aluminum Spacers 7 x 5mm 10pcs Tamiya (#53539) Ø5.5mm Alu. Spacer Set Once it arrives, I hope I will be able to create a bit better looking mount. |
