Default Look at what I just bought

I found this Tamiya TA-01 Idemitsu Motion Mugen Civic for less than $100

And thinking about turning it into a Rally car or a Pre-Runner truck, cause they are pretty much the same platform

I'm going to check it out and see if I can get it ripping again

I love old shit like this R/C

From my online research the body was released in 1993 that makes its 24 years old and was on a different R/C

The Chassis is TA02 from Stadium Racer Series which was the Chevy S-10 or the Ford F150 or the Toyota Pre-Runner

They were released in 1994/1995, so that makes the chassis 22 years old

Just shows these things are bad ass

I love my stock pile, its got a little of bit of everything

I got 2 different brushless setups to use in the TA02

I got the Vanguard 2900kv and the Vanguard AE3 on 2S and a Castle 3800kv and a SCT MMP to run 3's

The setups are for my unfinished and lost interest in Axial EXO

I being wanting a Street/Rally/Drift R/C for awhile now

And I just found a new side project for my HPI Mini Desert Trophy Truck

Cause lets be honest it sucks as a off road and short course truck, it fills full of

dirt and always runs hot and the suspension travel or lack of is a joke

And I replaced all the bearings and all new CVD's in the axles and new CVD drive lines

It better off set up as Rally Car or Street and maybe drifting baby

I like it, it looks like a simple and easy mod too make it Rally friendly

That was easy and it didn't take that long too convert the Mini Trophy

Is now almost ready for its new life as a Rally/Street with the right tires

Its been a few years since I ran the Mini Trophy

I can't remember how the battery tray works and where the ESC mounts

I will look online and see if I can figure it out

I found 2 sets of these Axial 1.9'' wheels and the offset is close to the original HPI Mini Trophy wheels that they will work for me, and were in my stock pile,

The HPI ones, I had to remove the old tires and foams using acetone and letting them soak overnight and it took off the silver paint that was on the wheels

They look better white, more of a Rally/Street look and with the beadlock rings, it gives them a different look then the normal Rally/Touring style wheel

Been looking at Rally and Touring car tires, too see if I can find some with a little more side way to raise the Mini Trophy up a little

WTF

I put the original Tamiya TA02 wheels in some Acetone to remove some old rubber and some old glue

And the Acetone ate all four wheels and turned them into a plastic paste

I have never had wheels melt in Acetone before

That was crazy, guess I'm buying some more wheels

Wonder if it has happened to other people

You can see what they look like before they melted

Do you need to use a servo saver ??

Can I use a different steering arm ??

Anybody here know how many teeth the Tamiya steering servo saver has

I tried a Futaba servo and a waterproof Traxxas servo and the saver just spins of the servo shaft even the screw in and tight

So I must of stripped out the servo saver or it's the servo's have the wrong number of teeth and that's why it stripped out

I'm going to look online and see what I can find out

Acetone kill plastic.....
If you wanna remove glue, grease, etc use wd40.... acetone is very toxic....

Still looking for the number of teeth for the servo saver, I found the servo saver its on the C parts tree

I did find this, it tells which holes to use, for the teeth on the pinion gear, it sets the mesh correctly for you

The more I look online the more I like the TA02, its was the shit in its day

Can anybody tell me, what does Part B3 do and is it necessary, its looks like it slides of the pinion shaft

OK Part B3 is a gauge you use to set the spacing between the motor and pinion

So the pinion is aligned with the spur gear

You can see the numbers on the motor mount

I figured it out

The original kit came with 2 different servo savers

The one I got is for a Sanwa, Acoms, JR, Ko it won't work

The second one is for a Futaba and Tamiya that's the one I need

I'm going to just put a normal steering arm on

Tore down the TA02 and cleaned out all of the old grease out of the plastic gears and the diff's and the housings

I installed a Traxxas 2075 water proof servo with a Axial aluminium steering arm

Then bench tested it, and every thing seems ok, its got a lot of drag on the drive line

I am going to order a bearing kit for it, cause the plastic bushing are worn and maybe some new gear sets and a aluminuim motor mount

Also found a extra set of drivers from a Mini Trophy, and need to make a interior and figure how to mount them to the body or maybe the chassis

Need smaller battery packs cause my 5000 MAH punch packs are too big to fit in the chassis, need to look at lipo pack sizes and order a couple of the right sized ones

I painted the beadlock rings on the HPI wheels with the closet matching paint. I could find

It's Tester Florescent Orange, going to shoot some Flat Lacquer over the wheel once the paint cures a little

Also drywall taped and Shoo-Goo'ed the inside of the body going to paint some Flat White

Over the Shoo-Goo, cause you can see the drywall tape when held up to the light

The body is already getting stiff, it needs to setup and cure then painted

My camera is giving the orange a pink tint on the body

I like it looks good to me

You know its almost cheaper to buy a Hard Body instead of a Lexan body, cause a lot of them the sticker sheets are sold separately

I found this complete Sand Scorcher Body for less then $40

Need to decide to slam it to the ground like a drifter

Or lift a little and give it the Rally look, and still drive it on the street

I also found 2 different VW flat fours one is single carb, the other one is dual carbs

And I found a very exspensive Flat Six Porsche motor

I like the dual carbs motor the best

I found these Sand Scorchers

2 are slammed to the ground

The other are lifted and using small offroad tires

I'm really like the slammed to ground ones

Cause slow and low is the tempo

And just cruise the Vista Baby
