| Traxxas 4-Tec 2.0 GT Rally Mod
Greetings, I've had my GT for a few weeks and overall I've been impressed with the durability after it flipping end over end for 30ft and not a single broken part. But now onto why I bought it in the first place. I was wanting to turn it into a rally platform and with a little modification it turned into just that. The rear only required to removal of two small pieces of the chassis and longer shocks, while the front I had to take a dremel to allow the hub carrier to move further down. Now with adding a little larger tire and the suspension raised I achieved what I was after. With the large tire and stock suspension height the chassis was riding at 18mm and with the modified chassis and longer shocks the chassis is riding at 26mm.

So far it drives smooth and handles great. Right now my only complaint is the spring rate on the shocks, but I may deal with it for awhile because at some point I'll get a true 62mm length shock instead of my hack job. I did add 500K oil to the diff it has greatly improved the traction on dirt compared to the stock.

I was happy to know that with very little modification it could be turned into a rally platform. I mean i have looked at Tamiya and few others, but I wanted a platform that I could get replacement parts easily and with the outlook of aftermarket support only a short time away.

Does anyone on this thread have a way of reposting the pictures without Photobucket? I'm really interested in seeing this car and the mods but cannot see the pics due to Photobucket's new P500 thing (and I have no idea how I exceed their bandwidth either but that's another story) Thanks! |

Very cool. I like that you turned this new road car into a rally. I use Flickr. It's not perfect, but it works. |

Soo. One of the big question is what length shocks are you using? The stock shocks are (eye to eye) 60mm. I don't have a bunch of road course shocks laying around and thought about 70mm shocks. |

I'm still running the stock shocks just with longer rod ends to get the ride height. I wanna say there around 65mm after the new rod ends. Most aftermarket shocks are either 58mm/60mm or 70mm and up, but it seems the 65mm length works best for now. I'll eventually get a true 65mm length shock when I can afford to. I'm also running a larger tire that's around 75mm tall.

O Ya.. longer rod ends. Cut the limiters off of the bottom of the chassis under the arms too? I'm still looking for a body for mine. |

Yep cut off the limiters on bulkheads and a little bit of trimming on the front a-arms and your in business. The larger tires that I'm running I found through amazon.

These are the rims that I got. https://www.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXM958 I have another set of tires that came with the same style of rim, but I haven't run them yet due to burning out the steering servo and I just haven't had the chance to get a replacement. |

Your welcome, I don't see a lot of following over at the traxxas forum, but I figured I post at both and seeing I follow the crawler forum I figured I get a bit more following.

so from what is in picktures above looks like you sanded the c-hubs and removed the aarm limits on lower chassis (im sure theres a name to that part) and got it to sit much higher off the gound. did i miss anything

The only things that I did was remove the chassis limiters and carve out the areas on the lower a-arms allowing the hubs to have more travel and also running a longer rod-end on the shocks giving them a longer reach. If you need more pictures let me know.

Awesome build, love the correct scale of the rally car. Their rally car is way to big. Do you have any videos of it? Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk |
