Default Getting all excited about the idea of an XV-01

I'm thinking of ordering an XV-01 Lancia when they finally turn up in the UK next week.

The idea would be to run close to stock and just enjoy 'scalish' speeds at least initially.

I have a couple of ESC/motor options:

I have a spare HW WP1080 ESC that I reckon should work and an old 12T brushed motor I could swap in if required.

Alternatively I have a HW MAX10 ESC and could source a smallish brushed motor.

Any immediate thoughts on either of these options? Would the MAX10 even fit?

TBH my initial thinking was to keep it simple and keep it brushed but open to suggestions. This would be my first Rally car and first Tamiya in about 30 years. I'll have to buy some decent screwdrivers

Cheers.

Don't buy new screwdrivers, buy new screws. You'll be glad you did, I was/am. The chassis bottom screws get scuffed on pavement and the JIS cross starts to fade.

As far as motor/esc selection, I ran a 1080 with a junk motor that was installed when I bought the car secondhand for a short bit before going brushless.

Thanks for the help. Sounds like the included silver can and my 1080 will work fine until I decide to go faster

Probably. Also, upgrade the suspension hard points and the dogbone setups when you can. I put long-travel (75mm) shocks on mine with the tall shock towers and found the rears dropping out of the outdrive cups so I put the fronts on all four corners. Also, don't be afraid to go 3s with the plastic transmission gears.
