My days are split between the lathe and getting Worlds buttoned up, so you are right that it is what I'm busy with!

I was tryin to back that up John. I just bought the service and I'm sending 1 in. It was gonna be 3 but I think the pros can last until after worlds

Whats biting me in the ass right now is having the lathe. One of my OEM contracts just ordered another batch of motors that are due the week after worlds, which puts the entire production schedule during the period I thought was going to be only devoted to prepping for Worlds. They didn't think there would be another batch until March, but got a lot of orders for their UAV unexpected. Good thing and bad thing at the same time I suppose. Fortunately, tomorrow I'll have most of the day to just hammer on Worlds since I spent most of today setting up the lathe for smooth production. My worker will be able to come in and press start while I do my thing, hopefully...

I created a thread for team judging and course building here. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/2014-...ml#post5267631

Since this is the first large event I have organized in years, we are scheduling 4 courses for 2.2s and 2.2p, and 3 courses for smaller classes. If more folks step up to be team captains and there is enough entry into the class for more than 5 people per team, we will increase the number of courses. I think 4 is a good number to ensure everybody can finish and that we aren't running late. 4 courses will also allow us to start drivers at 9am, and start course building at 7am. Starting at 6 doesn't seem like the best way to keep the event fun IMO.

As has been stated, the bulk of the event will depend on everybody and not just myself. I'm not the best course creator, I'm not the best judge, but I was the only person willing to take over this organization. So I'll certainly do my best to get it well organized and planned, but I'm sure there will be plenty of room to improve things in 2016!

I will be very happy for the future of competitive crawling! 5 courses with tighter time limit and staggered starts so we can have two drivers on course.

I think that if you do the dollar per course idea each judge should get a commemorative worlds G-string. It is Vegas after all. The idea of two shifts would also be good. That way no one would be stuck All day judging. Other drivers in line could easily serve as time keepers. This would give the consistency this level of comp deserves. Now to find some good unselfish people who would be willing to be in service.

The number of drivers has nothing to do with the ability increase the number of courses other than it gives you more resources (manpower & $$$).

The Team Format is scalable for any size crowd, and judging is somewhat consistent because all the judges are at least familiar with the course and its quirks.

If you want to see guys pulling the clipboard out of each others hands charge $5 per course

I only have experience in the team aspect or permanent judges. The team format works great. The thought of having to pay people to help is just weird to me. Whatever works.

The way I see it: we pay HH, we pay waiters, or tipping vehicle detailers and such.... We all pay for goods and services.
Judging is a job that most do not like to do but we don't just need it done, we want it done well. Pay the man. Heck, tip him and then award the ones that do the job well.

I didn't say I was apposed to it doub. All I'm saying is I paid to be a judge last year...To be at worlds is a big deal. I hope there is no one that simply wouldn't volunteer. My wife who's coming typically judges full time at every comp. She can't this year because she's spotting for me this worlds. Should be a riot!! Lol

Oh I don't think anyone would appose it, I didn't take it that way.
But I'd bet if given the choice, majority of us would rather not judge.

Just to play devil's advocate..

We've lost some good men lately, at work.
The company doesn't want to pay but wants top notch operator's, laborer's, etc.. They want us to get there for free, eat free, travel from the office (which is out of the way) then to the job. Like gas is free..

To the point where it actually costs money to simply go to work!
So ppl get fired, quit, or do a horrible job.

2 sides of this...

1. We want good, consistent, judging. By someone that is happy to do it and compensated for it..

2. We spend boat loads on rigs, tickets, travel, food, etc, etc, etc..
Now we are talking about paying for judging..

It costs money to put on the event, cost money to do what we love, costs money to travel, cost, costs, costs..

Don't we pay enough to play with toy trucks?
Now we are talking about paying the judges, out of the drivers pockets..

What happen to the ticket idea?

Everyone gets 5 tickets, per class (or a ticket per course in said class)
If you put the time in and judge, you have tickets at the end of the day.
If you don't judge, you have no tickets..
Then the tickets can be handed in for, money, choice of prize/giveaway, compensation(for the work of judging).... That doesn't continue to come out of the competitor's pocket...

I don't go to a wedding to pay the catering service employees..
I pay for my food ticket and the catering service pays them.

I don't mind judging nor do I mind keeping time, while I stand in line.
It's a Great way to learn the course while you wait!

Judge 5 guys and cut in line for that course.

All good ideas that have been mentioned this year or last..

Some guys don't want to feel forced into judging or spend a grand or 2, just to pay to drive each course (above already paying for the class)

I hear ya. I was glad to be going on a drivers ticket and not a judges ticket. I just have faith in our community ( which is strange because I'm the guy with no faith in humanity ). I know we will pull together and make it great.

Im still finalizing travel plans. But as soon as im absolutely sure when I'll be there. I'll be the first to volunteer to judge. I actually enjoy it. Its a great way to meet the people youve watched type on line for months and years.
