Default Eviltwin's "Evil Midget" 2009 comp tuber

After building an MOA Berg for a buddy, I was bitten by the MOA bug, so I ordered all the parts for my Bully build.

here's a spec list:

- Bully 2 axles
- (2) Tekin handwound 35t's
- (2) Tekin FX-R ESC's
- Spektrum DX6i tx
- CC BEC
- VP DH Pro Comps w/ bullet weights
- HB Rovers
- Revo rod ends & 5/16" delrin for links
- CKRC 1500mah 3s Lipo

The first item to come in the mail:

I built a chassis jig, but then I ran into a small setback with the chassis (that I'd already started), and I had to design a new lower section (link & shock mounts). Here's a basic idea idea of how it's gonna look.

After greasing the gears w/ Rocksmith's Gear Jelly and Locktiting all the screws, I was back on the chassis.

I went through a period of feeling totally disgusted and ready to scrap the whole chassis & start over, but I took the afternoon to take the wife & kids to the park and seperate myself from it. Back at work last night, and by 3:45 am the chassis was done, shocks mounted, front links on, and rear lowers are on. I just need to finish making the rear upper links & put internal springs in the shocks, and then it'll support itself.

I dediced on the following specs:

- 12 1/4" wheelbase
- 75% droop suspension
- 2 1/2" center clearance at ride height, and almost 4" of clearance when it hangs an axle.
- Chassis is 8" long, 4" tall, 3" wide at the center and 2 1/4" wide at the bottom.

I ended up having to make the chassis a good bit wider for the bully than I did for the berg, otherwise, I'd have had to do some really creative bending to the lower links.

I put the Proline wheels on it until I get my VP's. With the Prolines, it's sitting right at 10" track width.

Hopefully, I'll have the wheels & my other ESC tomorrow, and it'll be running by Tuesday.

That one is not mine. That's a Berg that I built for a friend. I couldn't let him beat me at the next comp with a rig that I built...(though he beat me at the last comp with an AX10 that I built him).

I'm tired. 2 nights in a row up til 4am working on that thing. I still have to make a skid plate, and the steering. At least it moved under it's own power today.

1 down side, though. I didn't think to ask the offset when I bought the VP wheels. They're Berg offset. This thing is narrow! Anybody have the next wider offset for VP's? I'm thinking I'll just use wider in the front & keep the rear narrow. Any thoughts on that?

and here is how she'll look...at least until it gets rock rashed.

I must have done something right. At yesterday's comp, in the amateur class, my bully took first, and my buddy (with the berg in the pic below) took 2nd.

Ok, I'm now rebuilt again after breaking the rear shock mount during last Sunday's comp.

It's now braced sufficiently, and should hold up to whatever I give it.

I also added a new servo...a Hitec HS5955TG. What a huge difference. This thing is fast & strong. I love it!!!

Now for the pics:

I'm debating on raising the servo a bit. I'm not sure yet. Any thoughts?

If it works and you can keep it that low go for it. Personally i have never been comfortable with the double link style steering. All the force is transfered through the servo horn instead of the drag link. I raised mine up 1/2 inch and inverted the horn to keep it more level.

Nice job on the win!

I really like them. I had an initial problem with the front knuckles loosening up, but after a couple times applying it, I finally got enough locktite on them and they haven't come loose since. They also just released an upgraded axle tube & knuckle set for only $20 that fixes this issue.

I've definately put them through their paces. I've beat on them hard enough to break the shock mounts off of the chassis, both front and rear and most recently bent a shock shaft pretty badly, but I have yet to hurt anything on the axles. The gears and shafts are the absolute definition of beefy!

The only downside that I see is that due to how narrow they are, a bit more care needs to be taken when setting up the lower links & shock mounts to make sure they clear than the Bergs. however, this allows a much narrower track width than the Berg, and this has definately worked to my advantage.

I'm sitting at 9 1/4" wide in the rear and 9 3/4" wide in the front, and I am often able to more easily get a line on a gate than the guy driving a berg.

Vanquish Products. They sell them as an add-on for their DH Pro Comp Wheels. I shop with Silas at Twenty1Eleven: http://www.t1erc.com/shop/.

They're not cheap, but they're a very nice wheel.
