Default Servo Mount and High Clearance Steering Arm

Thanks to 53 Willy's for the inspiration to try this on the Bully.

Well this is something we have been testing off and on for a while. I think we finally have it complete.

I tested the final design at our last comp and it worked flawlessly, the steering arm stayed true.

Now the only thing in the way is the axle....

Of course it is required that you grind down part of the axle tube to fit the servo mount.

I will have pricing and info up very soon.

Looking good Lance! Mine has been working nicely as well. I dont know how you got that long arm in there with the link laid back that far....I had to switch to the short Robi arm. It still gives plenty of throw!

Looks good. I prefer mine with the knuckles back wards as well as the horn, so much less likely to get hammered by a rock. Just my opinion though.

That's what I did. Drill the hole and countersink the back side...then use a flat head bolt.

Yes The first design will work, but in extreme cases your steering arm could extend out of range of the servo arm. I even tried bushings instead of ball ends and I ended up bending the Revo rod ends.

At the last comp I got the tire buried in a groove and used the servo to wiggle free with no issues. I'm happy the answer was a simple design change but I hate it stumped me for so long, man sleep is important, damn evil babies.

That looks good. Do you have some pictures of how you ground down the case?

interesting theory just to toss out there at you all before you grind. Run a higher turn motor with a bigger pinion and the motor would be further away from the axle and you would have to grind less

Default Got mine today

I got mine today. Got it installed, had to do a bit of grinding, filing & trimming to get everything to fit and clear the shock mounts.

Just finished taking it for a test on my landscaping rocks in the front yard, and it works great! Lots of clearance in the front of the axle to approach stuff now. The servo is in a good, out of the way spot, and it looks like the servo arm is fairly well protected.

Nice work, saved me a bunch of time and a pile of delrin dust!

Rich C.

PS: I noticed you're from Humble TX. We lived in New Caney way back in 1977.

BTW, guys, I wanted to add that it is a good idea to put a washer between the ball of the drag link and the nut on the front. I popped mine off yesterday while driving...the rod end slipped off the ball and past the nut. The washer fixed that issue.
