Doing some math,....

Berg case with bearings 45g
Drilled 2nd gear 8g
Drilled 3rd gear 9g
4th gear with RC bros locker 14g

76g not including the small 2nd or 3rd gear. Approx those at 5g for both so call it approx 81g? 2.86oz. Add upper link mount 9g and thats still only 3.17oz.
If i get time i will pull it apart tonight and weigh everything separate I think where you could loose the most weight is in the gears. Because they are 6mm wide i would guess they are what is so much heavier. But you could drill them, machine out the side opposite the little gear and drill out the 2 solid shafts. I lost 0.6oz per gear set just drilling them. If you machined them and drilled out the shafts i would think you could get another 0.4oz minimum. I don't think you could get much more out of the cases. I have already ground the crap out of them. But another .5oz out of the gears and 1oz out of the tubes puts my axles at 7.5oz.

I'm sure I'd be down in the high 4lbs range if I went with delrin tubes, I'm just leary about my driving style snapping something. Sometimes my rig looks more like a gymnist with wheels. (as long as all 4 make it through the gate right?)

I had hoped to see the factory version of a new Bully, but somewhere between lets get it done and building more scale accessories it just never happened.
D_lux delrin tubes are durable as it gets. What i have seen people testing the tubes do to them makes me cringe. I have never seen you drive but you can't be any harder on you rig, so you would be perfectly fine with Erics tubes.

Good stuff.

I couldnt find the overall axle weight?

The gear case you drilled is a LW version?

Excited to see what you come up with, sounds like it could be all in the gears!

My Berg gears are 3.5mm x approx 26mm. I took as much as I felt comfortable and it reduced it 5g. Maybe since youre close to 2x as thick, you would lose 9g? .317oz per gear.

Stock 13g

Lathed 9g

This weighed 1g less then above, 8g

Its all in the design. You cant have any stress risers. I seriously doubt you could break my delrin tube on a 2.2. There are quite a few 2.2's running around with zero failures and there are a handful of supers with them on now too. I have taken some serious tumbles with my super and they dont even flinch.

Another vote for Dlux tubes! I have broken 3 set of ckrc 6mm straights on my berg since I got my tubes, tube is fine!

That is one light bully Stubs... Nice driving up in Gainesville too

Thank you! Will you be at the comp this weekend? Not sure if anyone is still coming with me, so if nothing else it will be the wife and I.

Yeah, it's a LW one. It's also got the first set of drilled gears that RC4WD copied. I went lighter on my girls rig and they are holding up good even with it being a dual steer 2.2 with cast cases.

I might have to try the D_luk tubes for the rear. My fronts are obviously not going to be replacable unless I got a custom set.
I've actually tried a lower weight, (mid 4lbs) but I just couldn't get a "overall" tire and foam setup that worked well.
Perhaps if I can get some time to play this summer I can try again.

yeah I'm on my last set... I'm sure if I had axlemaster's or something of better quality it would not be an issue. On the 3rd set I radiused the 90 where they were breaking. I'd be happy to stress test some goodies though! I am a when in doubt power out style of driver....

I look forward to meeting you on Sunday Stubs

Wow! Thanks for posting that. There is a ton of material there. Do you have a pic of the case together from the front?

No problem, glad you like it!

Here's a couple more pictures for you:

The case has about 6mm of material there.
Now it has 3mm if I remember correctly...

Nonsense, a flat file, a round file, a dremel and a ton of patience, you can do it

It's a very very simple job...
You just need a burr (it that the right name for it?), and a collum drill and patience

Take your time and you'll do it!

Man! I really need a dremel and a lot of patience. I just got a super and those axles need a lot of dremel work with that bit.
