Looking at buying a new Bully
 

So rpphobby has a Bully ARTR at a really decent price, and I'm in the market for an MOA. Can anyone tell me if this ARTR comes with the machined aluminum axle housings? Anything else I should take into consideration?

I've driven a comp-winning Berg and XR10, and I know the Bully won't be comp worthy out of the box. But is it decent starting point at that price?

I believe that has 1st generation bully axles. They are a little on the narrow side and heavy. On the plus side you would be hard pressed to damage one. when I ran my 1st gens I shredded a few front tires, tweaked a few chassis' - running around 5.5lbs.

Its a decent starting point for playing around but I think if you got into comping you will be changing the whole car. If the plans are to comp then I would take a hard look at the Bully 2 axles and build off those."thumbsup"

Thanks for the comparison pics crawlinghulls, I didn't realize they were so narrow. I'm not concerned with weight as much as durability, as far as axles are concerned anyway.

@cboggs I wouldn't be comping any time soon, I just love driving MOA crawlers and have an easier time justifying ~$500 for a solid rig.

just got one of these kits the axles are the 2.2 axles, different from the pictures shown. Zinc alloy, thicker, heavy. I have pictures in the thread I started a few posts down. The electronics can easily cost the price of the kit.

Depends on what you want and how much money you have. The Artr kit is nice, and mine crawls well with dual Tekins and the right radio. I am very curious now as to how much advantage can be had with the state of the art. Goodbye tax return?

I guess its all about traction and rotational inertia. The more the merrier, to a point.

I bit the bullet and bought the kit, I'm stoked to get it. My Wraith is down right now so I'm just bashing my MERV until I get a crawler going. I forgot how much fun that little thing was to drive!

I'm planning on HH motors, single ESC (undecided) with punk dig, swapping the tires out for Chisels and hooking up to a Futaba 3PL that's already on the way. Nothing fancy, just a fun rig for starters.

Philthy- those axles are pretty much bullet proof. If you ever desire to lighten them up Dluxfab offers Delrin axle tubes. Also alot of guys remove material to lighten them. you'd be surprise how much material can be removed and still have near indestructible strength.
