Lubricating gears?
 

Good morning everyone. This question applies to both the current bully 2 comp axles and the old bully cast axles, as I’m building up both, and wasn’t having much luck with searching.

I haven’t build up a MOA rig yet, but thought I already had all my questions answered. Then the question of lubricating gears has come up. I’m used to the pinion and spur being outside the gear box, so you can keep the pinion/spur dry and the gears “wet”.

However, what’s the guidance for MOA gearsets when the pinion/spur is inside the gearbox?

Grease like normal?

Perhaps a spray silicone like Moo-slick?

Run them dry?

Grease my friend, grease is your best friend "thumbsup".

I use brake caliper moly grease. A light film is all you need

I use vp grease and coat the gears good, then the one gear the pinion runs against I try not to grease but just a tiny bit will get on it but its not a big deal.

Run mine dry, but i'm probably the only one. With that said i'm still running the oringinal gears and bearing from 3yr ago with no sign of wear on the gears.

I use marine grease, since it's also waterproof/water barrier, and high temp.
I use it in my differentials, transfer case, and transmission, a decent coating, but not too much.

I used some really old and apparently immortal Soviet grease that my father found in his tool storage ;-). Does the job pretty well, gears are quiet. Additionally, it provides protection from rust over time (as I'm not sure about the steel quality).

i just used the stringy green stuff i use in my johnny joints supention on my jeep..read others liked it..wondering now if its too thick..seems to run perfect and all tho quite and smooth ..after installing the hitec7950 servo i noticed my esc really hot in 5 min or less..maybe the green grease? maybe the new servo dont like the factory bully bec and causing esc to get hotter? any ideas? seemed like the 7950 specs was same as bully bec specs iirc
