Its pretty cool stuff. I've been using it on my models for some time now. paint on the base let dry then brush on Part 2 and wait for the rust to come. Part 1 is a base paint with Iron dust mixed in. That used with some creative dremel action and you can get some good looking rust on plastic. "thumbsup"

Re: Rust Bucket TF2

Does it hold up well without clear coat? It seems to look better without, from what I can tell from pics of the stuff. But some people say to clear it so it will stop rusting.

Re: Rust Bucket TF2

I've only used it on my static models so they don't get handled that much. I do clear coat, flat clear only, gloss would look funny I would think. I have done it without clear and they don't rust any more than the first inital rusting. If left uncleared the rust is lighter, when cleared it darkens up a bit. Hope that helps. "thumbsup"

Re: Rust Bucket TF2

I can't wait to see how this turns out. Ive done some rusted bodies, but only with lexan. I used a torch on the outside to create scrapes and dents, then painted rust with a paintbrush and then painted as normal. Came out good. Ive seen some crazy simulated rust on static models so this should be good. Trying to come up with my paint theme for my future TF2 build. It'll be awhile, as I'm in the process of moving right now. Have to live vicariously through all these builds for now.....

Re: Rust Bucket TF2

Lets see if I can get some help with this. I sold all my stuff awile back. I am looking to get a 3 channel radio for shiffting the trans. But I am going super cheap I do not run much...just to pass the time while I am at Art Shows selling my stuff. Anyway It seems Traxxas, Hpi, and Rc4wd are my three options...Hpi being the cheapest. Anyone have any experience with these?

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

HPI 3 Channel 2.4ghz TF-40 Radio & RF-40 Reciever | eBay

XR3 3-Channel 2.4Ghz Transmitter/Receiver Radio

Any help on overall performance for the price...would be cool...Thanx

Well Elects are on the way...got her all built...need to start on the body next. I put the middle size helper leaf on front and rear...I think it seems too stiff. No pics yet cause it aint notin you aint already seen. Cannot wait to get this thing broke in. Plenty of room for adjustment on the suspension...too cool. The kit just seems like Money when putting it together except for the plastic shafts...but it's good to have a week point...and those are it....it seems.

I accidently replied to your question in kurtus420's thread, sorry about that. There is a pic of the rust finish that I used on a scaler I weathered last year to look like a rust bucket.

Re: Rust Bucket TF2

Yeah I saw it...looks killer. The 2 step Rusting Finish is my next step. I will post pics later.. I did a coat of self etching primer( which is a grey/green) then I applied a flat burgundy primer. Applied texture (sand, salt). Next I am going to sand down areas and do the Rust effect. I plan on rusting damn near the whole body. Hopefully I will get to it in a couple of days."thumbsup"

O.K. Here are some pics. Before and Now. Like I said before. I Painted 2 colors primer...add salt when wet. I sanded the salt or you could just leave it. The key is to rinse with water. When the salt comes off you have what is in Pics... Next step Heavy rusting...and I mean Heavy.... lots o pics"thumbsup""thumbsup"

Re: Rust Bucket TF2

thats killer dude"thumbsup", i,m gonna try the salt deal when i start one from scratch
you were talking about clearcoat, i would try maybee testors dullcoat if you want to seal it

skullking 03-12-2012 08:49 PM

Re: Rust Bucket TF2

I use the rust solution stuff on other art work i make. I do not like the clear coat on this stuff. Does not matter what kind of dull coat or matte finish you use....it still has a sheen to it. Looks totally better flat and unsealed. Not too worried about it.....yeah the salt trick is killer.....
