'82 Toyota 4x4 SR5

Normally I do my build threads "as I go." This one is a rig I just finished and I'll just hit the highlights and any screwball reasons I have for certain mods etc.

I got the truck at Maximus Hobby shop Oct 5.

The goal of this rig was to closely approximate this rig...
http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...vr/SR5/069.jpg

I got the Chassis and big parts together and immediately pulled the driveline apart for re-greasing with Park Tool Synthetic lube.

Start painting...

Add some stripes...
http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...010_110754.jpg

Add some blackwash...
http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...010_135413.jpg

We're getting closer...
http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_0915.jpg

Hmmm, yes I see where we're headed now.
http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_0925.jpg

Out in the yard for a few minutes today...

http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...R5/run1/15.jpg

Like all of my builds, I run them and flop them and roll them and have fun with them...
http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...SR5/run1/8.jpg

I'll be trimming the valance off and installing an RCModelex ARB bumper with one of my custom brackets sometime this week.

The Rear RC4wd Bumper is a screaming deal...for $40 you get the bumper, shackles and hitch/ball. Tossed the ball on for a quick pic so folks can see, then it went where they always seem to end up...into the bed :)
http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...R5/run1/14.jpg

Here's a shot showing the AWESOME Axial Exterior detail tree's Mirrors. You can get Chrome or black...I'll pick some chromes up soon I suppose. Comes with 3 different mirrors and they're not only MUCH flexier than the stockers, but they mount using body pins! Genius. To run this style you need to drill another hole. I use a body pin on the lower post and the top one has a dab of Zap-Goo. You can see they include small angled shims to match the profile of the door too.

Also running the Dinky R/C V1 interior...complete set of MThead emblems inbound as I type this (had a spare so that is what you undoubtedly noticed on the Driver's side :) )
http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...R5/run1/19.jpg

Made some new lift shackles yesterday. These will give me some extra room for some bigger tires as well as fix the "meh" pinion angles. Once RPP gets a full set of Chino Military Wrap springs in, I'll get those.
http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...014_131609.jpg

So now I'll just update with wheeling pics and any new mods :)

RJ,
You really got the rust and weathering "spot on" with this one. Not over done like some I have seen and very realistic. The rust looks like...well rust, not peanut butter thrown on the paint  . I actually think the stock tires worked very well. Better traction then the stompers, just short. If they made them the size of the Stompers they would be awesome. I am going to hold out for the new Pit Bull 1.55's and maybe do the cut n shut 1.9 Boggers if I ever get around to getting some more of the right CA. So my Stompers are ready for ya. I can always run my Flatirons till I get around to what I want to do for 1.55 tires. I have been working on my Wronch the past two weeks so the TF2 has taken a bit of a backseat. But I did get the electronics swapped. I needed the waterproof Brxl for the Wroncho as it needs the higher voltage capability to run the huge tires. I am using the XL-5 lipo version now in the TF2 and it works great so far. I have a bec laying around somewhere that I am going to put in it, but it works for now.

Now that the tourists are gone from the beach we need to do a run 8)

Josh still have his Tf2?

Yeah Josh just installed the 3 link up front and some other stuff as well. We're trying to get down to the Kittery shop Saturday to statt construction of the new course! I jave a nice set if 1.9 rip saws if you want.

This is running an fxr/35t combo but i just scored one of the close out castle sidewinders so that will end up in here i think :)

Would join ya but doing my Birthday party crap with the fam on Saturday. Hope the course comes out nice. Would like to help out you guys and Heath on it. I still have to get by the track and set up his security system to be remote accessible, lol. I keep meaning to, but never get the time. Work gets in the way of work...

No worries, just got word we may be waiting until spring for the course now. Looks like I'll be prepping the farm here at the house and wheeling Josh's beach :)

I make up a solution of black paint (acrylic testors in this case) water and a drop of dish soap. 4:1 ratio of water to paint to start. Some guys use a drop of Future floor wax instead of dish soap. The soap is to break the surface tension of the water so it spreads/flows evenly.

You can also do it with water color's and it's less likely to set where you don't want it. Do a search for Blackwash and Model tanks and railroading and you'll find alllll sortsa crazy stuff :)

Dug out my old roll cage that I never finished. A few minor tweans and some paint and I think we're good...

Shown here on my last tf2 with stock shackles above and my own shackles below...

Military wrapped leaf packs by Chino63. Sold by RPP. Unfortunately, they only have one pair in stock right now.
The combo of longer shackles and more supple leaf packs (Chino military springs) make for a nice setup. With no shock limiting the front of the TF2 it flexed much much better. In reality a better leaf pack has more, thinner individual leafs.

What a great looking build, those pics could easily be of a 1:1 truck. Great work and thanks for the black wash tip. I'm going to try that out myself. "thumbsup"

Look next to the red rig :)

Brand new Hilux body, bed, grille etc:), that said, the new mojave body would be less expensive in the end.

Nice longboard from Tamiya's scratch and Dent bin...not a bad shape, but need a nose that is a bit more blunt for me...have to fix that. It's a 10.75" board so I can take some length out of the nose and reshape.
