Depends what battery you plan n running. On 2s I liked using a 16t on 3s I use a 13-14t Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I am using the stock gearing with a 35 turn cheapy Integny lathe motor on 2s. I like it alot. I would maybe even bump it up a pinion tooth or two. The low speed is incredible and well balanced with the top speed with this combo. I would like just a tad more high speed and wouldn't mind sacrificing some low speed as it has tons.

Thanks for all the input guys, am I right to conclude that 32 pitch is the right pitch for the TF2? |

Yes that is the type it uses stock and what you want. It is the strongest type available. That is the pitch or size of the teeth on the gears you use. You can not use different pitches of gears on the same vehicle. In other words you can not use a 48 pitch pinion with a 32 pitch spur gear. The numerically higher pitch number the smaller the teeth are. Common sizes are 32, 48 and 64 (not getting into the metrics). The tooth count is what affects the speed, torque and run time. You will see them labeled as 32 pitch 11 tooth pinion for example. That means a 32 pitch type of gear with 11 teeth. The faster you gear it (by using larger motor pinions or smaller spur gears or combo of both) the faster it will go. but the higher (faster) you gear it, the hotter the motor will run and the less runtime you will get. The lower you gear it by using smaller motor pinion gears or large trans spur gears, the more slow speed control and longer run times. There are sweet spots for most vehicles due to their gearing (combo of axle gear , transmission and transfer case gears). I believe the stock gear tooth count is 14 tooth pinion (motor gear) and 64 tooth spur gear (goes on the 2 speed transmission). I would say is try the stock gear ratio. If you want a little more speed then try a 15 or 16 tooth motor pinion gear. If you want a little more low speed control then go to a 13 or 12 tooth motor pinion. I doubt you will want more low end though as the torque of a 35 turn motor in low gear with the stock combo is really nice. | |
