Default Sam's new TF2 build for class 1

So I had a little holiday money left over from last year so rather than take some time off I treated myself to new TF2 kit with extra sealed bearings and RC4WD cvd's.

Going to keep it pretty stock looking so I can run it in class 1, pretty straight forward build thought I'd take a few photo's to share with you all.

Just got it home...

Oooooo....

Well packed

Great quality scale part

Getting it all out

with added extras

Stripping the axles down for bearings and cvd's,

sealed on the right

bearings in the back axle

transfer box opened up very impressed with the quality again

then I got a little bored taking photo's so set the ipad up and made a little film made up of a photo taken every 2 mins.

this is where i'm at with it now

I had to get the cvd's replaced as i'd been sent the wrong ones, but the new ones i received had rusted up?! anyone heard of this before? I've freed it up but seems strange for a brand new product.

I was planning a green colour scheme but after a trip to the local motor factors I've picked up a rather bright orange paint!

Had a really great time build the chassis up, just got to paint the shell and build the wheels up once my wheel weights arrive.

Electrics wise I'll be using a 35t novak motor and traxxas xl5 esc until I have some more free money and then I'll upgrade to a novak goat brushless.

Also got a new dx4s so I can change gear and run a winch.

any tips and advice welcome!

Nice rig. I like how you are doing better bearings right from the start. None of mine have failed (yet) but the stock ones are pretty crappy. I oil them after every use. probably why the have lasted till now.

I wouldn't bother with the Goat esc. I had one...went up in smoke. Very normal coinsurance for the Goats and many Novaks. It was a smooth esc with a nice throttle curve, very linear. But it is huge for one, not waterproof and well it is a Novak. I used a Traxxas XL5 for a bit in my TF2. I had no complaints with it other then it has a very weak internal bec. Would not steer with any resistance at all without an external bec. With a CC 10A bec it worked great. The TF2 is geared low enough that you may not miss drag brake. The TF2 is not really the best rock rig anyway. More of a trail runner. I didn't miss the lack of drag brake at all with my TF2 even on rock runs. I have since moved a HH BRXL to the rig and use only a bit of drag brake. But that is my preference. I use mine for trails, mud, sand, basic NE trail running which is sloppy trails with rocks thrown in.

There is a new CC Sidewinder V3 that is waterproof, 3s capeable and will do brushless or brushed just like the Goat. But costs only about $70 and "IS" waterproof. Very nice feature for this type of rig as water or snow or wet mud, etc will always find a scaler.

I think the rust issue was just RC4WD or it's supplier not oiling the shafts before shipping them. May not be a big deal as long as there is not any pitting, etc. Kinda sucks but I am not sure I would ask for a replacement and the hassle. Personal call I guess.

Enjoy the rig, they are quite a blast!

Thanks for the feedback on the goat rook, and yep Bill I'm glad too!

So got a bit paint on the shell today,

Was going for green so not really sure what happened!

Still got to pick out the details in Black going to have a go with my airbrush I haven't used yet.

Really pleased with how the colour turned out.

The color looks great! Do you mind me asking what kind of paint it is?

It's normal car spray paint from a rattle can. Ford electric Orange. First white primer then orange paint (4 coats) then lacquer (5 coats)

I just picked up the paint from a local auto factors
