Toyota Truck for Trucking - Now a N00b built Trailfinder! I'm making a truck. http://imageshack.us/a/img109/3230/img4976j.jpg It has these parts in it. http://imageshack.us/a/img7/8124/img4978l.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img255/2431/img4977t.jpg Helical gears, CVD's, 3 link front and 4 link rear because I'm fancy. http://imageshack.us/a/img24/685/img4982s.jpg Simple and proven drivetrain. I plan on comping with it this August. I still need some bits. It's a super-mild build, so don't expect ground-breaking, earth-shattering, holy-crap moments which you can apply to your own projects. That is, unless you've never heard of bobbing. Then prepare for your mind to be exploded. |
Re: Toyota Truck for Trucking Looks like a sweet start. |
Re: Toyota Truck for Trucking Looking forward to your build! What shocks are you going to run with it linked? |
Re: Toyota Truck for Trucking Waiting for my mind to be blown. |
Re: Toyota Truck for Trucking i forbid this build to make any progress until the FJ-60 is done :) |

I decided to Frank the bed rather than Robert it. http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/2987/img5542id.jpg I'm having a hard time deciding on tires - they really end up changing the look quite dramatically. Put some n00b fenders in front. I'll probably end up fashioning the bed in such a way that I don't have to cut the hood off to get at everything. We'll see. Still in the tinkering phase. http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/5816/img5543k.jpg |
Re: Toyota Truck for Trucking Tricked you, I ended up Roberting the bed. Roberta'ed. http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/6609/img5544pq.jpg I did a terrible job of making a straight cut, and I cut it in the wrong place. So I've got some fixing to do. NICE GOING, IDIOT! Also trimmed the front fenders. Here's where the bed topper was always going to go: http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/7048/img5545md.jpg |
Re: Toyota Truck for Trucking So today I tried experimenting with brazing. I'm pretty sucky at it for my first time. http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/3554/img5558bb.jpg I wanted a simple, two-tube bumper and this is what I came up with. Bleh. Faux winch will maybe lead to a servo winch under the hood. I don't know yet. Brazing is hard - I fully respect the people who do it well. Bobbed bed is done, and separate from the cab like it should be. Hard mounted to chassis for strength. http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/9611/img5550kt.jpg |
Re: Toyota Truck for Trucking Are the first pics 1.5 Boggers with 1.9 walker wheels? |
Re: Toyota Truck for Trucking I like the look. |

I decided that my homemade bumper looked stupid on the front. Seems to have always been meant for the rear. http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/2199/img5560i.jpg Factory seconds rear tailgate. |
Re: Toyota Truck for Trucking looking sharp. my old 1:1 yota had a bumper exactly like that, i like it. i removed it though and it weighed so damn much that it raised the rear about 2 inches lol |

I continued my experiments in brazing tonight and made this roll bar for the back, where dummies would sit and hold the driver's beer while watching things. http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/2364/img5561ds.jpg http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/8661/img5563h.jpg |
Re: Toyota Truck for Trucking Nice clean metalwork, Guy. You get a like for your willingness to hold my beer. |

Picked a paint colour. Have some detailing and more painting to do. The End. http://img546.imageshack.us/img546/3121/92k2.jpg |
Re: Toyota Truck for Trucking So you braze now too eh Matt?! Was styrene mastery not enough?! I like the blue. Reminds me of the JK. (I just got that warm fuzzy feeling inside) Helicopter gears you say... that is fancy. Did Richard get mad when you took his fenders from him? Please, continue not blowing our minds with this "super-mild" build. |
Re: Toyota Truck for Trucking 5 lug wheels... So not scale. Just kidding, looks good so far, I'm liking the blue. "thumbsup" |
