So I got a wild itch last night around midnight.. Lol..
So I went down to the work bench..
So when the traxxas shaft popped off the yoke, I knew I had to do something different.

I got a set of SDI propeller shafts a while back and used one on my sporty.. Well, I went for the other one a week or so ago. The 2 ends per shaft, just didn't fit. So it came the dremel! I was going to cut the slide end off the one yoke, But..... I just couldn't do it!
So after some debate. I drilled a hole in the yoke and tapped it. Then took the short yoke off my sporty and gave it the slider end with a set screw.

Ooops, back to the TF2.. I grabbed the shaft and the dremel but had to move a wraith uni first.. Hmmm.. That feels the same thickness.. Well, it was.. So instead of cutting up the SDI shaft (reusable parts) I cut a old, short side XR, rear shaft up and used it for the length I needed..

So instead of this..

I have this!

Yep, that looks better and makes me feel better about it!

Next item up.. Shift servo..

I saw my buddy Hittman selling a Rc4wd 2 speed wraith tranny and asked him about the servo. He recommended it for a few reasons..
It's quick, metal geared, and take's a full sized servo horn.. Which I happened to have one laying around, so I ordered the servo..
It should fit very nicely where I have planned for it.
I'll be on that today, to try and get it worked out.

Shift servo mounted..

Found some flat springy steel out of a kids collapsible laundry basket.. Score! (It will work for now anyways) lol..

Play time!!!

Man these tires tuck perfectly, thru full steering!

And the first scratches.. :'(

Been on hold, due to replacing the front end of the XJ, which I stole for the front axle of this..

I went thru and loctite'd all the hardware, messed with some wider hex, and getting the 4.25" short Lil Nova foams stuffed in the other 2 tires.

With Motorama coming up, a requirement is having a driver..

So the wife not only got me a driver, but a good looking one at that! Lol..

She couldn't have done better!

Some scale goodies came in today..

Spare..

Now.. Do I use the SS cooler or the red Igloo.. One has to go in the XJ.. I also need to make the small SS "tool box", into a " first aid kit (with a black cross), take it out, or leave it in there..
Kicker is, I Need a high lift jack and a gas can in there yet.. Ugh....

I can move the stuff around, as well.. But it's in there like puzzle pieces right now.. Lol..

More to come.. I have to do something about shocks!
I talked to Rckcrwlr.. He likes King shocks.. I don't like blue, so maybe RRD shocks..

Anyone else have a highly suggested feeling on shocks?

I put the King shocks on my linked truck and while they work well, they aren't very scale in my eyes : ( I'm with you man, the blue kind of "toys" the look down a bit... Was going to run with the proline scale shocks but they don't even include the end-ball-dealies...which kind of killed it for me.

Your TF-2 is looking super-slick by the way!!! Making it harder for me to pick between the TF-2 and the Gelande 2 lol.

Someone was just telling me about the scaleness of them..
I also took notice (maybe it's just the look of the shorter shock?) That the 80-90mm King shocks, aren't as skinny as the 100-110mm ones?
Rc4wd ballistic shocks where suggested, as well..
I was told they are skinny, and black, at the 90mm length?

My cheap-o azz will prolly end up going with scx shocks and mini springs, to start with..
I have them on a few comp rigs and know how the act, react, and how to disk then in to exactly what I want..
That and I have a set sitting here! Lol..

Thanks! It's been a work in progress for some time.. Finally getting to the thrashing stage!

A little work today.. The inside of the tool box had them axle holders.. Well, I won't be using them and the holder's took up too much space! Dremel time!

Then a quick cut out..

Then paint.. Looks like #&@%

Better sand and repaint..

That's better! Now let's throw some junk in it!
The mail showed up with, just, one more piece..

Coming along nicely..

Moving into suspension..
The rear stated out like this..

Then a little of this...

I've been building and running the scx shocks on my comp rigs for a couple years now..
I ditch the black spacer between the o-rings and add a 3rd o-ring.. Then a green slime them before spinning the cap back on.. Takes care of the leaking, that the scx shocks are known for..
Then some mrc silver springs, jeepindoug spring cups, some old school shock collars (notch eight designs, maybe even), and some 30wt shock oil.. Machined pistons are in the mail.

I'm liking it already... Flex's Way smoother! Has a better ride height and does a good bit less bouncing...

Now to take care of the front shocks..

I cut the shock mounting tabs off, to do the steering.. So now what!?
Well, with knowledge of shock and link collars for a mrc and parts I've seen Wes Made, make.. I grabbed a slab of "delrin" I have.(it's a dollar store cutting board) haha..
A couple renditions later.. Pic of the last couple steps..

The nuts are actual torque'd into the shock mount's. (Hopefully to stay)..
Then mounted them to the leafs..

The shocks kinda leaned in towards the pumpkin, sooooo....

Now the front cycling smoothly as well!
Waiting for more o-rings and the machined pistons to get here, so the fronts just hanging or for now..

I'll pull the shock mount's for paint when I pull the shocks for rebuild.

My next move was the servo horn..

Pulled the red for the black replacement

The screw head from the drag link was Killing my pumpkin!
So I swapped the 2 out.. The black gives even more clearance then the pic shows, cause it did deeper on the output spline's..
All bottomed out, without shock springs, and still clears!

Perfect!

Ok, tech over.. Lol..
I'm not sure I'm fond of the mirror's..

They don't look bad in the pics.. But... in person, they look like costume jewelry! IMO..

I guess it's more so from the view of looking at the side of the truck.. T-bone view..

That's all for today..

More goodies, update!

Started sorting out items..

The high lift jack fitting perfectly under the tool box, it takes up zero room! With the gas can in place, the high lift jack can Not come out from under there.. Saaweeet! One less thing to lose if she tips over or rolls!
Bonus: the key fob fits in the to box for storage and trail days..

Onto tech..
With the shock parts coming in, I got to work..
I knew the front socks where exactly where I wanted them, creating a natural bump stop right before the tire got to the wheel well..
So I drilled out the center of the spring cup, right before breaking thru the back..
This is compared to the rear cup.

It still added a little limiting, but we all know, it doesn't work the same, on the bench, as under power and on the trail..

Max flex on bench.

The rear tire stops when is rubbing the wheel well.. Bump stood to come.. Don't want to rub that sexy paint off! Lmao...

I'm enjoying everything about this build and the ride height is perfect! IMO..

The ground clearance is awesome!

Let's get her out driving!

A little video is downloading..

So far so good.. They have about 10-15 mins of use on them... Lol..

Honestly, my thoughts, the worst that can happen is a set screw coming loose. Even if 2 came loose, the C couldn't fall off.... Which has Way less chance of happening then a xvd breaking!

Which leads me to think, the ring and pinion are the weakest link in the axle's right now.. Which is cool, cause I can upgrade to helical gears then..
