Picked up some Rc4wd front wheel wells and got to work..

First thing I had to do, after screwing them to the chassis, was get holes dremeled out for the shocks to fit thru. As I have scx front shock hoops..

I'm pretty happy about it, at this point..
Then lots of little cuts to get the fit I wanted..

And still more as I went..

Then I saw one of these in the cupboard..

Time for more dremeling!!!
After cutting the outer ring off, I started work on fitment..

A $h!t load of small dremeling later!

It fits "perfectly" between the bed and chassis rail.. (Could it be better, sure! Does it need to be, nope! That's what dirt's for! ) ;)

Fronts got spray on bed liner, then a shot of flat black. Rears just got flat black.
It's all back together, but that will be covered in a update tomm.. Lol..

I never did make the comp this past weekend.. :'( snow was in the forecast and work called on me. Dam snow!

I'm digging the fronts!

For the rear, I mounted them and Amazing goop'd them in (some what) last night..

Today, I finished filling them in and sealing them off..

Taped them off and painted..

Final product.. (Still a little shiny/not dry)

Body back on shots..

I should have sprayed the rears with bed liner as well. I like the textured look.
I guess, not that it matters, dirt will cover them soon enough..
It's not going to be a shelf queen and they will only get cleaned by nature anyways!

Now the under side is done.. Time to get the exterior finished up..

Final pieces.. (For now)

Well, I didn't like how big the mirror's looked on the truck. So out came the scissors and the dremel to touch up around the edge's

Also shaped the mounts, to fit the body better, with leaving the mirror's tops in.

Mounted pics tomm. After I figure out the glue I'm going to use.. Amazing goop isn't sticking to the rubber.. :/
Rubberized tire glue, maybe....

Now the snow melted off my rock pile, I could really tell thee need for a gear down..

I dropped from a 12t to a 10t pinion..

Then realized the shift servo wasn't up to par..
So since a friend was coming over that had a low profile servo.. I'll give it a shot (even tho its a savox and will need a bec put in now)
It works pretty good. I can semi shift on the fly now. Still have to drop off the throttle to change gears.

Finally took this bad boy out for a trail run!
2yrs to build, 200yards of total run time, so far!

Now to find one in stock! Or someone with one to spare!

It was fun while it lasted and I liked the performance out of it.
Even with the wettish mud and leaves, over the frozen ground underneath, the Growler's worked and driving was very much realistic.

Next upgrade is here! Already had to trim a little fat, to make shock spring clearance..

A little update, for the Lil Troyota, that could..

Took the truck to it's first comp. It was a trail class style comp with 30 or so drivers. (Scale rigs but no scale points)
I wasn't even going to run it... The owner, of the island, said it would be his preference to run.. So I ran her!

I got questions and comments most of the day.
She flexes, she steer's, she crawls like a champ, and she looks dam good doing it! Lol..
The Pitbull Growler's hooked dry and wet, even dirty and covered in dry grass. There wasn't anything I pointed her at that didn't get progress..

At the end of the day, I was Stoked about the truck!
My scx might just sit! Unless I want something to abuse.... ;)

Overall.. 1st place! With second being 52 points behind.. Absolutely blew my mind, with a new truck, on it's first outing!

I told you you'd enjoy driving the Troyota!!!!! And she is a fantastic rig. I built mine about 4 years ago to compete with robbob, and she definitely did but your Troyota is a trail rig dream.

Awesome job

Thanks Curt!

The Troyota, "dream, trail rig" continues..

With a C2 comp yesterday, last week was a head game for me. Since this rig is still new to me, I didn't know what to do about tires..

So I grabbed some wheels, foams and tires.
List:
CAC 1.9 scale wheels, CI Lil Nova foams, with RB's..(which I can't find the pic of)

2.2 CarterFab Methods, CI DW, with RB's..(once I realized how much I like the Methods, I tested the Lil Nova's on them too)

Not much height difference between the 1.55 Growler's, stuffed with CI foams, and the RB's with CI DW foams..

I think the wheel setup looks Sick!

With the ability to use hubs, I grabbed some "Shift" hubs, from Lattice Innovations (BC-Brian) and got my width right..

And went out to the rocks..
The front worked Great!!!

The rear didn't work so well.. With the shackles on the rear and the open lug pattern of the RB's, the back arch of the wheel well was getting alot of bite from the tires and holding back truck performance.

So the next move, since I think the 2.2's look bad ass, I thought maybe the Growler's would look good on the CarterFab Methods..

WHAT!? 1.55's on 2.2's!!!!!! ;)

Not bad.. But I really like the RB's on the Methods.. Sooooooo....
I ended up back, right where I started..

I figured, I mize well get use to the truck before I start worry'n about what tires I'm running... So with the Growler's mounted back up, it was time for bed and get some sleep for the comp..

So, on with the comp info!

Course 1
Into gate 2, I watched some winching, some rollovers, and some make it.. Sure hope this truck works! Sure did!
Then into gate 8, watching some C2 rigs struggle up a hill climb, I started to get real worried about my tire choice!
Well, all was well and a clean course thru 8..
Wait wait wait..... I have no steering! The horn is laying in the dirt! (Non clamping and screw fell out that was holding it on)
Quick repair and finish!
No rebacks or gates.. Clean course (minus the touch/repair) shewwwww...

Course 2..
Another good course design..
Clean course!

C3.. I actually got on video! (thanks to my camera men.. Wes for his "Footage" and Jslick for finishing it out!)
It was the trickiest of the day...
Gate 1, I think I was the only one to come out of it to the right.. Narrow track width was a good thing!
Gate 4 was steeper then it looks and another spot I was worried, but the Growler's and the truck, did me good..
7. Worked as planned, just not getting into it. I got trail rash now tho! Lol...
Another clean course!

Troyota C1, running in C2, at Rausch Creek ORP: https://youtu.be/VH8wg41GWxk

I'm getting more and more stoked about the Troyota! I think I need another, for a dedicated C2 rig.. ;)

Enjoy..

Small changes/repairs..

Took the Troyota to a picnic Sunday after Rausch.. Mistake! :/

Let my adult cousin drive it around..
Showed him 2nd gear and went back to my conversation..

"Hey, is this supposed to be smoking!?" WHAAAAA!!!!

So shy of waiting for fire and my rig melting to the ground, I pulled the body off and unplugged the battery.
Come to find out, it was the motor.. :'(

Now, I wish I would of took a pic of the smoke first!
It was rolling out of the grill, out from under the hood, and the wheel wells.. It looked SOOOO realistic, it was bad ass!

I got back to it yesterday.. Endbell hood is melted off the endbell, on one side..

Found the shifter broke off, which was causing binding in the tranny. Which lead to the motor over heating.

Replaced the shift rod.

Checked for smooth operation and mounted up a "new" heart.. It's a transplant from my Super..

HH 13t skewed 520 puller

More updates to come..
I want to mount a SDI shaft to the front axle, protective cover (mounted from chassis real to chassis rail) for the transfer case, and finish the rear axle wrap setup..

With the NENC (North East National Championship) last weekend and class 2 on the menu, I got the Troyota ready to go!

Then 2-3 weeks before hand, my son(10) decided he wants to be a rock crawler, too...

No way, no chance, he's running this rig! So I got the XJ ready as well..

Then my indecision kicked in.. With around 30 of the best comp drivers, in the north east, do I want to run the yota!?
Trailfinder in scx land.. Leaf sprung, class 1, sitting on 1.55's... Yikes..

I had it all planned out! If the course's look like I needed the XJ, I would just run that. I mean, it's already teched in..

Well, I realized... I didn't care, I love the way this truck works and I was running it!

Course 1.. A gate and a reverse..

Course 2.. A reverse..

Course 3.. 2x rollovers and a reverse..

She got some rock rash and a little more experience at driving..

At the end of the day...

Hell yeah!

That's 3 comps in a row, Super happy with this rig!

I used rubber mirrors for the tamiya jeep yj and they turned out great. If you want something smaller check them out.

The conversion is holding up Troyifically! Lmao...

I have one loose C.. I put the bottom set screws thru a thin place in the C-hub and knew it would need attention eventually.
My fix, was loctite.. But that only worked for the last 2 comps! Lol..
