So I dug in today, as the roller has been sitting for month's! Pulled the front axle to check things out. Booo! Dog bones.. luckily i found these on the for sale section nip.. Then I looked inside that knuckle.. wtf! Pulled the shaft to see what was goin on.. A little bearing race, anyone.. lol.. Opened up the axles for the xvd's to go in and atleast found everything already shimmed up, Saaweeet! So I put everything back together and moved on to electronics and tires.. First with the class.. 1 or 2? Pitbull Growlers or pitbull rock beasts.. I know one thing.. the passenger side, other then the door prolly, will be finding itself done in tan. Or a whole paint job or diff body all together. Dropped a HH 30t Team pro flow in with a 12t pinion. I have No idea what a good gear ratio is in this thing? Put a Hitec 5995tg in it (333oz - 416oz, 6v - 7.4v) and setup the drag link.. The next thing I realized.. 1.55's on 1.9 internal beadlocks is not for the faint at heart or impatient... But dam do they look good! That be it for now.. |

With a little time today, I shot over to the weld shop for a little bumper repair.. And mounted.. I fear not the unknown of what abuse it will take now. I more worry about the chassis holding up to what the bumper can take! I then finished up the wheels with the center caps.. Even becoming OK with the red side.. Next question for the more knowledgeable.. how do I get a little "lift" out of this thing? So it looks more 4wd instead of 2wd.. A suspension lift, not a body lift.. |

as far as the "lift", looks as though you are running just single red main leafs........I would add the longer helper leafs to the bottom side of the mains. those will pick it up a bit |

New life raines and the Troyota lives! The final pieces of the puzzle came in on Saturday.. HH wp brxl (as I knew, not much was fitting in the electronics box) and a HH 16t Team pro crawl. The brxl comes with the bullet connectors for the motor side as well, which I didn't realize before.. Only placed for testing, but worked for me to get this thing out and rtr.. Now for the name of the Troyota.. came back in mid season when KK was having a giveaway/sale.. For detail, and kinda including my wife into this (more so I wouldn't/couldn't forget) :o the numbers are our marriage date.. 12/13/11 So anyways..... Too the rocks! With the 16t HH crawl motor and a 12t pinion the rig has plenty of torque to crawl and play in 2nd gear and also race around at a pretty good rate of speed(slow/medium jog) ... Then 1st gear just bunkers down and dogs in! I moved a few rocks on my home course that my 2.2 rigs haven't ever moved that much.. just waiting to find the weakest link now.. :what: Rtr didn't last long.. the red side Has to go! Pass door taped off and just looking to find the right color to match the driver side. I saw some where that the battery try can be moved forward if spaced up a touch. That and the little mini sized shift servo has to go. Time for a full sized, maybe a Jr or as-3 servo.. something metal geared.. |

If you're looking for lift on the cheap, just add some spacers between the axle and springs. I used 1/8th inch ABS and stacked up two per each corner.

Thanks Dawg.. I also found my old 3racing scx lift kit.. might try something either way. Found some leafs too.. decisions decisions... This decision was a easy one.. I wasn't all about the color, so a new cab was picked up. The hood and side holes were filled in. Let harden and sanded.. Primer an paint to follow.. Red primer, silver base, and graphite top color.. should create a good look as it wears down thru and shows "scratched metal", to "rust".. |

Primered 2nd coat.. wet sand tomm after it dries fully.. (color isn't as orange as it looks in the pics.. Hood hole filled in perfect.. And the doors look 1000 times better with all the holes filled in! Imo.. Edit.. I should have filled them 3 holes in in the bed too.. :/ maybe tomm before sanding.. Today's progress shed a whole new light on this whole "hard body" side of things... Very enjoyable to work on, shape, and see coming together... First things first... Had to get rid of them 3 holes! At this point I shot it in silver and left. Came back and gave it a wet sand with 500 grit. (thanks for the tips TNCrawler) I could dam near let the bed alone, if it was the look and or color I was goin for.. All rinsed and drying.. Ready for a second coat of silver in the a.m.. then maybe by afternoon, I'll be able to get the first coat of graphite on. Saaweeet! |

This TF2 is coming along nicely! I think the graphite will look great. I had tossed that color around on mine for awhile. Looking forward to assembly.

Thanks guys.. I had/having a small issue with the paint on the old bed wrinkling when the silver hits, but I sanded back down in those spots and seems to be taking better.. I'll be moving on with it soon and get back to pics and final color |

If I was goin for a silver yota, I would feel Great about my progress at this point! After sanding and touching up with paint and sanding and touching up with paint, and repeat, and repeat.. I was having issue's with the paint wrinkling in spots, so I just kept working at it. It could have been walking outside in the cold and hitting it quick and back in the house, trying to hit it too soon between coats, could have been too thick of coats.. I dunno. Buutttt, now it's a touch warmer out and I backed off on trying to see the coat of paint and just a once over quick and let it dry.. Well, 10 skim coats that I couldn't see goin on, was Way better then 1 coat I could see goin on! (i didn't really coat it that much)... I also wanted to get the "interior" and "bed liner" on before I started the final color.. So here's what I got.. Hood, door, and bed holes turned out Awesome, imo, after paint! I was surprised at how clean the edge of the bed liner came out. as I was holding the bed by hand and just rotated it around as I sprayed. Started from the center of the bed and sprayed out, I just worked my way around till it was black. I picked up some mirrors and some matte black decals as well.. |
