Default Got it back

So a couple of years ago I sold this TF2 to a friend. Well today, I got it back. I had purchased a Dingo kit, built it, and there it sat with no electronics gathering dust. He saw it and wanted it so we traded straight across. It's very dirty, missing the back window, mirrors, and has a broken light lens.

My plans for it include a singe speed trans, 3 and 4 link, 35 turn motor, BRXL, and a stronger steering servo. Here is a photo of how it used to look before I sold it. Can't wait to get started on the rebuild.

I remember that truck, was an inspiration for me...
I miss mine, but I'm afraid if I had it back it would sit and collect dust again....
You gotta show us some before and after pics. Is it still blue?

Will do. I didn't do a build thread last time but I will for the improvements I'm going to make.

PS. Yes, it still has my original paint job.

I'm interested in seeing the single speed trans installed.

The trans should be here today, had to buy a longer shaft that goes between the trans and the transfer case. Different mounts too.

There will be photo's iFrog.

I really like the front bumper/grill guard on the original, which one is it?

It's been a couple of years, but I think I bought this bumper from RCmodelex.

My day started at 5:30 AM with a phone call from the assisted living facility where my in-laws live. Seems pop fell on his way to the toilet and hurt his shoulder so it was off to the emergency room.

Late morning was spent giving the truck a bath, removing the transmission and transfer case, (it's dry as a bone) and just taking a good overall look at the truck. Here is a comparison photo of the 2 speed trans and the new single speed that will get installed. You can see the difference in length of the two along with the new trans to transfer case shaft that is needed to make the hook up.

As I said in my first post, the mirrors are gone and so is the back window. But overall, it's not in bad shape.
More updates soon.

New transmission, re-greased transfer case, and coupler installed. The drivers side mount for the trans on the 2 & single speed look identical. However, the one for the single speed is just a little longer.

Next will come the tear down and check of both axles. Maybe time for helical gears.

Today I was able to remove the rear leafs, re-grease the rear axle, give it all a coat of paint, and install the 4 link.

Front axle is next. Speaking of axles, how do these axles tolerate 1.9 wheels and tires. Thinking 1.9 RC4WD Super Swampers but will hold off until I get some feed back about the axles.

Yea, that's what is on mine also. I put a 1.9 IROC up against the 1.5 IROC and there isn't that much difference. I was happy to see that the axle gears were in great shape.
I liked that flat bed of yours, wish I would have seen your 4 sale add.

Did you make that battery box or did Warren do it?

Actually that flatbed tube work is from Bob1961....he also built the box out of styrene ...you can get the scale corrugated styrene ...I tried it...sometimes it warps after painting...it had a hinge on it ....very cool, Bob did a great job on that tube work...simple bolt on. This is making me miss it now..

Looks great, I've been thinking about going single speed trans. Was it a big difference in the weight of the trans?

I didn't think about weighing it but there must be a difference. I did notice that the coupler between the trans and transfer case is heavier even though it's tapered.

PS I just hope that the single speed eliminates some of the slop in the drive train. I'll know when I get the other drive shaft hooked up.

I removed the front axle this morning and when I opened it up, CVD's. I had forgotten that I had installed them. 3 link and pan hard bar installed. Now to find a servo. Getting close now.

What is everyone running for shocks these days on the TF2. Also, anyone tried the rear shock mount that moves the shocks to the frame so they sit upright?

I'm running proline scalers up front and stock rear shocks. I used a cut tlt suspension mount. I also outboard rear shocks.

Thanks for the reply eric113. Those front stock shocks are terrible. Did you use the cut tlt suspension mount as the rear shock mounts?
