AZ Blue TF2....yet another!!

So after oogling RC4WDs TF2 kit for what seems like forever, then seeing the RTR come out, I knew I had to pull the trigger. This is how it arrived, with Revolver shackles metal front bumper and rear tire carrier. The shirt was free with their coupon code (because I spent money like it was going out of style).

It came packaged nicely, box..... inside a box.... inside a box... inside a half box.

Here she was, shiny and new.

I quickly started adding things and replacing things. Rear tire carrier went in. I had some RC4WD 1.55 rock stompers and stamped beadlocks from another build, I threw those on too.

I trimmed up the lower corners of the body because I thought they looked weird hangin out in the breeze.

Scooped/installed the RC4WD Warn winch and painted portion under the grill black to help it blend better.

Re: AZ Blue TF2....yet another!!

So, the rear bumper was so flimsy and came quite misshaped I decided to embark on creating my own. Pretty rudementry/basic. I bent the tube by hand with wrenches and other things I could find. I used 3/16 and 5/32? weldable steel rod....because I hate brazing and was going to try my hand at Mig welding this stuff. This was the result.

I figured I was done adding things so I got to painting because the red was starting more and more to look like pink. Sanded out some of the mold marks and briefly over the rest of the body. Primed it and used a metalic blue color that was in the cabinet left over from the lady friend's crafty endeavours.

I found that grey looks good on these trucks...

I was scrolling through some posts on FB and saw a picture of a guys TF2 that had rolled and the cab got crushed. That made me a bit worried, so feeling confident with a decent outcome on the rear bumper I looked at some pics of 1:1 stuff and went to fabricating a rollbar.

I ordered some more scale goodies in the process. Threw them on as quickly as they arrived. I also found some metal sliders from a previous SCx10 build that I modified to fit.

Picked up a light bar and decided to ditch the mounts and integrate it into the "roll-over-protection".

I got an itch and ordered a 3/4 link and it all came apart again. I used stock SCX10 shocks in the back and ordered RC4WD 80mm Scale Dual Rate coilovers for the front.

This is the outcome.

And this is pretty much how it sits now. This is with my current SCX10 build.

I hope to make/finish some sort of Exo for the front cab, finish the interior, and do something with the bed (bob and narrow maybe?) Thanks for lookin.

What are your thoughts on the waythey did the RTR? Im getting one, and will do some stuff to help it flex alittle more. Not looking for a scx10 flex though. Does it have metal bumpers or plastic.

I am overall pretty pleased with it. The only thing that I was a bit disappointed with was it actually came missing one of the front clear corner markers. Not a huge deal but there was a fair amount of loose hardware as well. I went through the entire thing with a fine tooth comb and checked it all out. Suspension components and the drifeshaft set screws were really the only ones that were truly loose. I suppose that can be expected though. The rear bumper it came with is plastic(extremely flimsy) and mine didn't come with a front tube bumper at all. It only came with the chrome bumper that the Body comes with.... Im not sure if that was another piece that got left out or not.

Re: AZ Blue TF2....yet another!!

I got to staring at this deal and didn't really like how low the front bumper hung. I found that RC4WD offers different height bumper mounts. I believe the one that comes with the RTR kit is a #3, or the lowest hanging one. I also found I didn't like how flimsy the actual bumper mount is. I figured it would be a good idea to get the metal #2 mount they offer.....but its out of stock. I decided to try and modify my bumper to mount to the frame.

This is what the bumper looks like, out of the package, "stock".

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7557/...bcbed7aa_c.jpg

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8612/...6b60db0f_c.jpg

This is the "stock" bumper mount.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7493/...f83fed32_c.jpg

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7552/...a49bebec_c.jpg

I cut the mounts off the bumper and then picked a height I wanted the bumper to be. I tried to make it so the top bar of the bumper would be right under the headlight. I picked a spot on the bumper where the mounts would line up with the frame rails. Then I simply took a grinder and shaped the round mount to fit in the square mount location.

This is what it looked like.

Re: AZ Blue TF2....yet another!!

Last night I started to try and workout a way to EXO the front portion of the cab without affecting the ability to remove the body and not have it look stupid. When I made the rear roll bar I used steel nuts welded to it as mount locations. I figured I could try something along those lines. I kinda hate doing it this way and would more than like to simply tie the EXO to the sliders and the front bumper however, the bumper and sliders are hard mounted to the frame and that would make it a bit of a challenge to remove the body for something simple....like changing the battery. I had some 1/8" weldable steel rod laying around, it seemed easy to bend and shape so I used it. With some bends and a few braces it should be pretty stout. I know on 1:1 vehicles the tube would typically be a bit larger but a 1.25" tube(what 1/8" at 1:10 would be) as a simple exo didn't seem too unrealistic. Anyhow, this is what I came up with.

The passenger side was the worst cut. I didn't take pictures, but I was able to get it looking better with some body filler and such. Although there aren't any finished pictures of the bad side, it turned out OK in my opinion.

I think I might try to play with the ride height a bit, add some inner fenders at least for the front and then get at the interior
