Default TF2 coupler replacement

Had this idea for replacing the coupler on the 2 speed transmission with a drive shaft. Unfortunately all the shafts I could find were too long. Sent my spare ultra scale shaft to Scalerfab to be shortened and here's the finished product. It was basically welded yolk to yolk.

Scale is the point, genius.

How well does it work if the transmission and t-case aren't perfectly in line?

Seeing as the trans and case are perfectly lined up via the original coupler and mounting holes for the trans and T-case in the chassis, that won't be a problem, however the new coupler are still universal joints and may not be welded together 100% perfectly, so they would offer some allowance if they weren't lined up 100%.

Ran it last night for about a half hour with no issues.

That's no more to scale than the original part. No production truck has a drive shaft that short and 98% of 4wd pickup trucks don't use a divorced transfer case.

Yes I know, but I'm planning to go flat belly or really damn close. It will more than likely not be perfectly straight any more that's why I asked.

I gotcha. I don't think I could achieve much angle with this short coupler, but I have faith that I could get some, just as long as there's no forward or rearward moment of the T case and trans.

I like your idea - it looks much better than the stock part. As long as the weld can hold up to the torque, it is definitely an improvement in my book.

Thanks, I'm still cautiously testing it out. I also keep the factory coupler close by in case of a failure. It's just something a little different I wanted to try.

I apologize I didn't mean to offend. I didn't realize what you were talking about at first. After looking at my truck I see what you mean about the polished shaft. You come real close. Looks pretty good after all.
