Upgrading a TF2 RTR

Been wanting to get deeper into the scale RC scene for a while now and with winter coming I really needed a nice project for KrawlZoneRC. RC4WD was one of our first sponsors and have shown amazing support from the beginning so I contracted Tom and he made me an offer on a TF2 that I couldn't pass up so now I have it and can't wait to begin…

Re: My New Winter Project for KrawlZoneRC

After opening the box and pulling out the TF2 I was really surprised that they include a full cab back and plastic tube bumper with them!

These trucks are so photogenic right out of the box. I also really like seeing those leafs peering out from underneath the chassis.

RC4WD Truckin Toyota

Did a couple free "performance" mods to it tonight. I did the pardonmynoob's leaf hanger swap which really helps with suspension travel since the hanger doesn't hit the front valance.

Then I moved the shock tower back and relocated the shock mount on the rear of the front axle.

Re: RC4WD Truckin Toyota

When you did the hanger mod on the front axle, did it change where it sat in the wheel well?

RC4WD Truckin Toyota

The front wheel does sit back just a couple mm's. Once I drive it, I'll be able to see if it's a big deal, might have to use the bruiser shackles which should move the wheels forward a bit.

Re: RC4WD Truckin Toyota

Took out the 2 helper leafs in the back and the shortest one in the front, seems to have helped with the articulation. Might have to put the medium length helper in the back because of a little bit of sag

Re: Upgrading a TF2 RTR

My first run went pretty smooth and only rolled it once in the beginning on a line that my SCX10 usually does pretty well. After that I paid more attention to the trucks limits and it began to be so much more fun than most of my other crawler type rc's

I did notice that the leafs got quite a bit softer towards the end so I will be putting back the medium helper in the rear.

Also going to need a new servo horn, the plastic one stripped out right as I wrapping up my evening.

Re: Upgrading a TF2 RTR

Did a couple things last night, since Asiatees is one of our sponsors and I really like their scale D90 phat axles I decided to mount then up.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...949e2a952b.jpg

I then swapped the mounts back since they made the front tires hit the inside of the fenders, then busted out the dremel and chopped off the front lower valance.

Yes I cut the fronts of the fenders off.

Then for the sake of scale, I installed a RC4WD steering stabilizer.

As much as I like the primer grey look, I think I've figured out a paint scheme.

Also got some 1.55 SSD wheels and RC4WD Rock Crusher tires on the Toyota and really liking the look of them.

Sanded a bit more then sprayed the first coat… its Rust Oleum Satin Paprika and I'm really liking it. I didn't want to go too far from red because I didn't want to have a blue or white body and have bright red scratches showing through. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...a7b3960ae1.jpg

Finished up the paint job, inspiration came from BKcrawlers TF2. Only thing left for the paint is to get some rock rash details…

Mounted some 2.2" wheels and some mud thrasher copies just to see what I thought…kinda like the look.
