R.N.S. Builds A Rusted Development And Finds A Trail too.

17 Attachment(s)
Being in the hobby for a long while and doing a few builds on here and owing the axial AX10 brand since day one I've always wanted to try a leaf spring rig and why not a TF2.
After Doing a little bit of home work and checking different builds and tips it kinda gave the itch to try one out.
I wanted the kit version rather then getting the RTR cause i rather build then just take it out of the box and run, what's the fun in that.Ha ha
So to start off most of the stock parts will stay stock until I have to F.ix O.r R.epair D.aily "use to own one"Ha Ha,and with a few mods here and there that are new to me.
Most of my time will be spent on the body and not so much on the the roller "For now".
What's with the void sticker...

So this is where I at now
Because i have to wait for more parts i won't be building this in it's exact order so for now I'll be putting these together for now..
needed a tool for the 2mm bolts so i made my own and a comparison for the foams..

1.55 3.50-3.95 Standard inners/Soft/CI Nova foams:
I found even with these foams the tires they are still kinda of hard should i put a hole in the tire just to release some air.
I wanted to see how it would look have the Landies and steelies on backwards
Normal width for both landies with Micky Thompson ATZ and steelies with the Mud Thrashers is 8 1/2".
Flipping the the landies backwards with the M/T ATZ extends the width to 9 1/4"

Look there already rusty from the factory. The Landies are raw steel and are made to rust unless you like to paint them....

Still waiting for parts and scale bolts so I started assembling the body first to see what has to be painted and just to see how fit and finish looked.while i was ready to install the dash i notice a big gap between the windshield and dash.i want to move it closer to the windshield but not sure if my driver will reach the steering wheel...has any body else run into this problem..

Have the same problem with mine. I noticed the windshield fit is poor at best. It almost seems to be to large for the cab.
DUDE? 5 lugs on a Yota ?????????? Say it ant so Joe.......

Never notice till you mention it,ya just ruin my day man..:lmao:
Doesn't matter to me how many lugs could be 8,12,24 military .. if it looks cool I'm all for it....
funny my windshield fits perfectly flush with the window molding inside, but the front dash about 1/4" gap to the windshield.when it come time to paint it you will see the gap more visible with the dash curving down...

founds some cheap no name Primer 2 for the price of one better then paying double for top brand, and some 800,1500 ,grit sandpaper will smooth every thing out.I have 3 coats of each spread around randomly over the body let dry a couple hrs and sanded down with 800 grit...
A few more coats and time for some table salt and a little bit of orange.
It will be my first attempt and getting nervous...:lmao:

Nice start, sir. For what it's worth, for all around trailing and moderate crawling, the stock Mud Thrashers work quite well with stock foams and no venting. The X3 compound is firmer than X2SS, so there's not as much to be gained from swapping out foams and venting. On most of the X2SS tires, I've found new foams to be a must. Re the windshield and dash, I've found that a few minutes with the heat gun helps get everything tucked in and flush, but looks like your solution worked just as well. "thumbsup"

thanks man...Ya i decided to use the CI foams in the Thrashers and they seem to be a little more softer,as for the dash since i moved it up about 3 or 4 mm i hope my driver reaches the steering wheel if not I'll set it back and try your method...what part of the dash did you heat up...
Oh ya I'll be looking into getting the Skid plate i like to try this one first to try it out..

well scale bolts came in yesterday so put the body aside for now and going to try to get this TF2 rolling..
I bought the scale bolts from LockupRC came in zip lock bags...So instead of measuring each one with a caliper i found some containers labeled each one to speed things up...

Scale Hex Bolts Kit MC Zinc

Attachment 354919

Attachment 354920

Also when i took the axles apart to add a little marine grease i wanted to do the shim mod but only had one shim there was no shim inside so i left it alone...
It really doesn't have much play in it at all...

Attachment 354925

Attachment 354926

Once that was done it was time to make it look real......

Attachment 354927

here also I went ahead and reserved the bolts for the shackles so that the head shows on the outside of the chassis...

Attachment 354928

I'll set it up the way the instruction ask for.So no bruiser shackles i couldn't find any so while i was shopping at RCmart i ended up ordered some G-Made shackles not sure if there going to work but hell they were cheap...

Gmade Leaf Spring Shackle Set Sawback GS01 1 10 RC Car Crawler Off Road GM52304 | eBay

and at the same time i ordered these to I notice the shackles look longer and for a good price....

Till next time....

First Error not in my part but RC4WD "rear chassis brace"....Not sure what right the instructions or the part it self had to reverse it,wouldn't any other way.....also i find there a late delay in the rotatiion of the spur gear,ya turn it about 1/4 turn then the drive shaft starts to turn...

Attachment 354964

Attachment 354965

added some more scale to the transfer case....and added some more protection.....

Attachment 354966

Attachment 354967

just like the real 1:1 came in bubble wrap.....

Attachment 354968

Also found another flaw.....and i see a failure here the pin is low and it's flush on the other side just like the one next to it....

Attachment 354969

and more scale ......

Attachment 354970

Attachment 354971

So all i have to say so far this thing is so cool .....

The play you notice in the tranny is normal for the two-speed and is also normal in other two-speed trannies. Because there is no clutch, there needs to be some play to allow for shifting. The scale bolts look great! "thumbsup"

yes i found out later on on a few old threads i read dated back in 2013 that was the reason so now that i know and it's not a flaw I'm cool with that.

No but really i wanted to use it as a steering link..I know it stabilizer bar but bought 2 because i didn't know what size i needed. So i figured lets see what it would look like with both on. they looks ok but never seen one in a 1:1 so i use the small one 65-90mm the other one 90-120mm will be use on my hard body Chevy..
