Default Stock shock question

Are the stock shocks supposed to hold shock oil? Can they even hold shock oil, I am asking cause mine never have. The shock shaft is all loose and sloppy going thru the shock body at the bottom. The shock is working as just a coil spring. I am not understanding how people are getting the stock shocks to hold any kind of fluid at all.

To answer the question you asked, the stock shocks can definitely be filled, and they hold oil decently if properly assembled and not damaged. I've found 3k or 5k diff fluid to work best to slow suspension travel down. I run them that way on two of my TF2s, and they do fine. As to why yours seem to be so loose, there are several possibilities. I would start by checking the lower shock body caps, spacers and o-rings to make sure everything is in place and properly tightened.

Assuming you get them to hold oil, whether they will get you what you want out out of your suspension setup is a completely different question. If you're running leafs, you should remove the coil springs from your shocks (whether stock or aftermarket). If you're running links, you're better off swapping out to a set of good coil-overs.

Hope that helps!

2 out of 4 are shitty, I'm going to buy new shocks. It was a bad build from rc4wd so I am going with some boom racing internal spring shocks.
