Locked Up's Blazer build

Back when I was 14ish I bought myself a 76 K5.

1976 K5 Custom Deluxe Sport Blazer to be precise.


Paid $600 for it ... Had a lot of work to do on it before I could drive it at 15 but I loved that truck.
It was only 2wd, but in my head I saw it like a monster truck because it WAS a big tank.
I had plans to convert it to a 4x4 but never got there and ended up getting a deal on a newer Blazer that I liked ... but never loved like that first one.


So this is my throw back build I've been wanting since RC4WD released the hardbody.
To help me I've enlisted the talents of Wes Brazwell, so a big portion of the build will be done by him with input form me.

This will not be a 100% precise replica, but more of a "what I wanted" when I was a kid. Minus the billionty chrome shocks that were popular back then.

Wes actually took over the build that had been started by Clay, so the truck was mostly assembled. this means he can get right into the good stuff.

So not the right tires, but I needed something on there. Slipped these tires on just to get the truck up to close to ride height. There will be 1.55 wheels on here with much smaller tires. Also finished the under hood battery tray.

Looking forward to getting back on this once the parts train rolls in. I typically just build one that I think looks good. Should be interesting trying to tweak out the wishes of a 15 year old Patrick.

A big box of parts arrived from Patrick. I am getting back to working on the Blazer. This is a suspension truss that I recycled into a transfer case hanger. Makes the t-case almost flush with the rails. Just need to make a skid and we are golden. Still waiting on some interior parts, but I am sure those will arrive soon.

Sprayed some color on a few panels that don’t need any mods. This is a direct color match of the truck Patrick had back in the day. Should look pretty good with the clear sprayed on them. The door panel still needs a few more colors, but wanted to wait a bit before I tape it off.

Made some more progress on the interior. I am trying to stay period correct with this one. Based on what I am seeing in 1975 there were this many colors used in the interior. I also was able to cut some “carpet” for the floorboard out of craft foam.
