n00b "builds" a Marlin Crawler Edition Trail Finder 2 A mysterious box appeared at my front door yesterday. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4470/...219b3e74_b.jpg First, I did this. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4497/...9c5690cb_b.jpg Then I did that. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4453/...e3484989_b.jpg Followed by this. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4485/...57b09819_b.jpg Then one of these. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4451/...860242bc_b.jpg Watch this. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4483/...3f3c046d_b.jpg There was something in there. Some upside down truck pictures. Let's get rid of that. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4511/...9f7160c9_b.jpg THAT'S a quality box. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4465/...35d60d3c_b.jpg Kitty house complete. Thank you. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4488/...52700f5c_b.jpg |
Re: n00b "builds" a Marlin Crawler Edition Trail Finder 2 Well, since the cat is occupying the box I ordered I'll take a look at this picture box. It has trucks on it and I think trucks are neat. This box is loaded with features! Really. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4470/...01aa34ef_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4509/...b763a0d1_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4451/...bc4cbfd6_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4460/...d66bdf15_b.jpg Please enjoy some slightly out of focus pictures of this truck on my bench. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4512/...72b23350_b.jpg New two piece grille. Check that detail! https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4469/...9d1b7028_b.jpg Roll bar https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4463/...9940c0b0_b.jpg New bobbed bed https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4486/...f1a1c340_b.jpg Ready to run https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4505/...73b9688f_b.jpg Bag of goodies https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4448/...bf31fa1d_b.jpg STICKEREZZXZZX! https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4453/...39075ac9_b.jpg NiMh battery because RTR. And probably an easier battery for shipping, yeah? https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4507/...775b04bc_b.jpg But that's ok, the ESC works with 2S and 3S batteries too. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4507/...775b04bc_b.jpg So if you haven't noticed, this isn't a typical RTR TF2. Obviously it's a replica of Marlin's Crawler but it also has some performance upgrades. Yota 2 axles, new transfer case skid plate, metal front bumper, bobbed bed, 1.7 IROK tires. Stay tuned for outdoor pictures and video! |
Re: n00b "builds" a Marlin Crawler Edition Trail Finder 2 First run of the truck. Box stock with exception of a 4000 mah 3S instead of the stick pack. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4491/...fe70435d_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4493/...c71e1084_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4489/...0aec9095_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4488/...7ab32216_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4506/...a6f6e443_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4507/...1725a086_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4494/...345660ba_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4498/...c4a22b45_b.jpg Very successful first run! I ran out of daylight before I could get any good video. The tires hooked up well. I haven't used these 1.7 IROKs before but they are nice and soft. They do rub at full stuff but the real truck has the front fenders cut so that can be done. The bobbed bed helps greatly with departure angle and the front bumper actually has a pretty good approach. There is room to move it one more hole by the way. The suspension was a little stiff but there is room to tune it. I took out the internal springs from the shocks and removed the small helper before the next run. |
Re: n00b "builds" a Marlin Crawler Edition Trail Finder 2 This is badass. I'm on the wait list for this one. I got the email yesterday, saying it is coming soon. Can't wait till I get the email, saying it's in stock and ready to ship. |
Re: n00b "builds" a Marlin Crawler Edition Trail Finder 2 So, the front bumper is metal, rear bumper and sliders are plastic? |

Second trail run. I removed the springs from the shocks and took out the small helper. Major improvement. Feels like the springs softened up a bit by the end of the bash session. I also threw in a bench seat (not included) so Creepy Uncle Albert could drive. I don't like shooting video of trucks without drivers. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4445/...2b2f8ed0_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4445/...1342bb93_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4481/...9ea3f140_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4498/...118fd7d2_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4470/...43d92415_b.jpg Pulled the Class 2 line at Smiggin's https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4500/...3179a0f7_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4475/...00d4d3ae_b.jpg Undercarriage after 2 runs. I tore the body apart, painted it red and reassembled. End result. A red truck that is now red. The decals are from the sheet that was included with the truck. You may also notice I added a winch, AISIN hubs, inner fenders and a radiator core support. The truck is pretty much ready for running as my class 1 next year. That was easy! https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4483/...5cbda4e3_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4502/...e8e443a4_b.jpg Sprayed the bed with liner, bed liner. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4445/...7503bb26_b.jpg I replaced shackle mounts with the ones from BowHouse RC. They move the shackle back ever so slightly so it doesn't lock on full compression. Cheap, easy and useful. Like myself. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4468/...69b99189_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4507/...5721a8f9_b.jpg After a very rocky run today we're still in good shape https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4477/...5cc60fe2_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4502/...d2c23368_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4507/...0b92844b_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4471/...0677ca25_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4446/...70195379_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4498/...e74c66e6_b.jpg I also recorded some video. I'll have that posted in a day or two. |
Re: n00b "builds" a Marlin Crawler Edition Trail Finder 2 Where's the "Shocker" sticker? Was that not included? |
