So here are the two samples. The one on the left is the actual color Bigfoot painted their trucks, and the one on the right is the color that most people use on their trucks as is was thought it was the correct shade. They are both backed with PS-5 as that is what I am going to have to paint the shell first so that the blue and clear will stick correctly.

left for sure. right is more appealing but something about that left color just seems... right?

as for painting the outside... I'm taking notes here. might have to do the same with my '79 body. separate the bed and cab, add some braces, new grill... anyway yeah looking good!

BIG UPDATE:

First off I used Bondo flexible parts repair for the seams, then used regular Bondo so smoothen it out.

I painted the base with Tamiya PS-5, then painted the Bigfoot blue, and then a few coats of Clear (TS-13)

I painted the bumpers silver for now, but will wrap them in chrome vinyl. This is before the Bigfoot decals. I used a sheet of chrome vinyl to make the chrome trim pieces and also used black pinstripe.

Here are the mockup decals so I could get the right size. Still need to work on the truck on the cab. These are taken right from the actual Bigfoot truck. Took pictures a while back and happen to have them, so I used photoshop to make them.

...and here are some mock-up shots of the truck. Still have a long way to go, but this will give you a sense of what it will look like.

Still need to make the cab cover, finish the decals, do some paint, mount the electronics and servos, mount the body, and a bunch of other things. More to come!

Just to share a little tid-bit, I will be putting rubber body mounts on the bottom of the cab and bed to life them up a bit like the original, and that is how I will mount the body. Using 3mm screws and figuring out what I can use as the rubber stoppers.

So this is the ride height I think I am going with. I added about a quarter of an inch on the bottom of the body to mimic the rubber body mounts like on the real truck. It seems to be the right height. Next will be mounting the body, making the servo mounts and engine shields in front of the exhaust headers.

Anyone recommend a speed controller?

Made a custom "Powered by" decal to have it say 460 like the actual BF4 had. Also made the bed cover. Used velcro because I am going to cut a rectangle hole in the bed to allow access to the ESC, radio and battery.

Just a minor update. Outlined the Bigfoot logos on the door and hood, did lettering on the rear tailgate as best I could in paint, but I am going to go back over them later like I am with the pin striping. Re-created the front license plate and chromed the suspension link for the rear axle.

Ok so I am going to try the Hobbywing 1080 ESC, and was wondering, will the Savox SC-1256TG work well with it and say a 3s battery? I am using a futaba radio. I really want a good servo to take some hits as well as be able to turn those massive wheels. I figured the Titanium gears would be a better bet than regular metal gears.

You should have no problem running the 1080 with a Savox.

I have never had issues with that servo, but mine isn't in a monster truck.

The Tower Hobbies TS-170 was recommended to me as a tough monster truck servo. It's a rebranded Hitec. I have 3 and they haven't skipped a beat yet.

It's on sale right now and with the coupon it'll probably be around $70.

So I have decided (for now) to go with the hobbywing ESC, two Savox SC-1256TG servos, a GENS ACE 5300mAh 3S 11.1 50/100c LiPo Battery, a RC4WD 540 Crawler Brushed Motor 20T Z-E0065 (cause I want some speed with the 20T), and a Futaba radio to match my transmitter. Not too confident on the motors, but at $9, can't really complain. I wanted to go brushless, but a brushless won't fit into the V8 block.

Thanks. This is the first time I have tried to make a RC vehicle from scratch and aftermarket parts. Used to the Serpent and HPI 1/10 and 1/8 car chassis. I've built a TMAXX about 13 years ago, so this is my first venture in trucks since then. First Custom one though.

Man im glad i jumped on early, this build has been incredible to witness.
Love the idea of chrome vinyl wrap! I have been struggling with aluminum tape on my 79 ford, real pita when it wrinkles up.

Paint turned out perfect, and your details are impressive!
This thing is coming together amazing, and that first pic of the truck with the big tires instantly gave me memories of seeing that truck winning at anaheim back in my youth.

Thanks for showing us this journey, and the nice dose of nostalgia that comes with it! FORD TOUGH!

*oh! I just remembered, you said you wanted thinner wires for the plugs on the engine? Maybe try the wires inside a phone cord or some cat5 network cable?
Harley mentioned that in one of the budget honcho build vids and it reminded me of this build.

Yeah I looked at those, and they are actually too small. I really need a 16 gauge wire. I still have a long way to go as I need to make the servo brackets, steering linkage, interior, firewall for the engine bay, finish up the bed so I can install the electronics, etc. I regret painting so early because I just realized I forgot to cut out the rear bumper and drop it down a little bit like the original. Oh well. Would be way too much work to go back and do it. I may do it later on down the road.

So my frame is 1/4 on an inch thick, and I want to drill completely through it to screw the body to the frame. I was wondering, how small can I go to keep it attached without making the screw too small to worry about it breaking? I already know 3mm is too big, but I am wondering if a 2.5mm or lower would work??
