c0bra’s trail finder 2

So I originally got myself a trail finder 2 back in late November/ early December as a birthday present to myself. When I ordered it I also got a complete k5 body.

Like some people I built it and it sat until I got electronics for it. Then the stock body was used for something else and eventually the k5 came off as well. Then this thing sat and eventually I decided to make my own version of the blazer rtr, until I watched the rc4wd v8, r4 trans and everything else for it go from on order to out of stock! So then I debated on doing a lwb conversion on it and going with lc70 body but I never actually ordered anything.

Then one day I went to my lhs and saw that one of the employees was building a marlin tf2, after that I saw a really nice tf2 on here and realized I should pick up a body and go with it! With my lhs putting in a scaler course I figured there would be a bunch of hilux/Mojave bodies, same with the blazer. But then I stumbled across the body mount rc4wd sells to mount s tamiya f350 body and immediately I knew what I was going to run!

So I placed the order for the mount, found all the parts for the body at the same place and ordered it. Also ordered 1.55 ssd assassin wheels in black with some 1.55 pit bull rock beast and 2 sets of ci lil nova foams (soft front, medium rear). Electronics will be a savox 1256 with protek horn for steering, savox 0252 with a Losi horn for shifting duties, rc4wd 45t motor and s hobbywing 1060 esc. Will be running s 4 channel airtronics rx as well.

Anyways here it is with the body roughly sat on there just to see how it would look. I also picked up some rustoleum 2 in 1 paint/primer in gloss dark gray and sprayed the body

I will have to do some wet sanding on the body as it’s a little rough in spots.

You'll have to post more pictures when your done. Would like to see the body completely done. Hard sometimes to get a project back on track. I'll forgive you for putting on a ford body, but just this once, lol.

I started to wet sand the body last night and some of the paint came off so I’ll have to respray it.

I also painted parts of the f350 bumpers and grill although i am not sure if I’ll be using them.

I was also able to pick up a 16t pinion as well as I seem to have misplaced the stock one

The body is finally painted and mounted! I do need to work on the bed though as it’s not sitting right, some o rings or spacers should fix that.

Anyways I’ve also picked up some proline scaler shocks for this thing yesterday from the lhs and will be filling them later on and mounting them.

I also have the bowhouse rc skid plate and rear leaf mounts coming in today from shapeways so they will go on today as well

I also ordered the a&m garage shackle reversal kit for the front end. I’ll post pics of it when it comes in

Update!

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1bad88dea4.jpg

I got quite a bit done on the trail finder even though you can’t really tell. I tore the truck apart quite a bit to add the bowhouse skid plate and rear shackle mounts. Wile it was apart i replaced quite a bit of the chassis screws with grade 12.9 just for the added piece of mind.

Wile the rear end was apart I did the chino mod on the springs but I didnt sand them to a point, more just put a nice angle to them. I picked up 2 sets of proline scaler shocks and filled them with 20wt oil front and rear and mounted them with team knk spacers. I did also remove the smallest helper leaf.

Also up front I also flipped the leaf mounts with the a&m garage kit. Sorry I didn’t take any pics. I left the leafs stock for now trying to keep more of the flex in the rear.

I also picked up a tough armory rear bumper with a hitch as well as a metal stock replacement front bumper, however the rear bumper will not work as it will leave a large gap between the bumper and bed. So I returned it. If anyone knows of a bumper with a hitch mount that will work let me know!

The main electronics are also finished. I soldered a deans connector onto the hobbywing 1060 and soldered the motor to the esc as well. Then I tried to run the wires for both servos and the esc along the top of the chassis as much as possible and will have them cross on a chassis brace. After having a 3 inch extension and picking up a 6 inch one from the lhs yesterday, I am finally able to finish the electronics. After putting in the velro, some zip ties, the drag link and figuring out the shift linkage this will be ready for a quick shake down run on 3s

I've always loved that body. Looks great so far. Nice choice of color, wheels and tires too.

Is this a standard length or LWB chassis?

A powershift rc light kit should be in for this thing either tomorrow or Thursday! I will be looking into a way of disconnecting the rear lights from the cab to make battery changes easier as well if that is not already built into the light kit.

Finally got around to installing the powershift light kit, but I won’t be able to finish it until Wednesday at the latest unfortunately.

Also I’ve finally picked up steel punisher driveshafts for this thing so I can finally run it! Just in time for me to decide to make it even more unholy with the 3 link front and 4 link rear conversion.

But I do have a marlin coming which will stay leaf

Looking great, have you figured out why the bed is a bit wonky? I too have a Marlin on the way:mrgreen:

For some reason the rear bed mounts just needed a spacer under neath the body post.

I am debating on doing an extended cab and a lwb conversion on this thing. I contacted loops model to see if they make one but do not have it listed on their website. They responded saying there is one coming sometime in 2019!

They did not say when in 2019 or what wheelbase but I did ask them.

Looks like I’ll be impatiently waiting for them to release the body

Received an update, loops model said first quarter 2019 and it will be 35mm shorter than their quad cab.

So should I stretch this one or piece together my own tf2 lwb.....

Oh man I loved the Ford body and I'm a Chevy guy. It looked bad ass as-is. But I'm sure you'll make the Yota just as cool.

Oh don’t worry the Ford tf2 is coming back and it will be even better than this one. This truck is a bit of a test mule that build

I honestly don’t know what’s taken me this long to update this thread!

When this truck was an unholy tf2 it made the ultimate unholy decision of becoming a linked truck! But it also received a powershift rc light kit. I did actually run the truck with the 45t on 3s and had to replace the stock plastic driveshafts within the first pack. I have to admit it was a fun truck!

However a new build or 2 may have been in the way (new build thread for new build coming soon) and I decided to change direction with this. So not it’s a bit of a test mule (hint hint).

So off came the f350 body and on went the stock body, of course with the factory bumper mounts chopped off! Also the hood had to hinge, because why not? So on went a bowhouse rc hood hinge kit! Also in the front end went an aluminum bumper mount with a marlin aluminum front bumper with the way over kill warn 8274 winch and wired controller.

As far as motor and esc, the 2 speed trans was swapped out for a single speed and the brushed motor and esc were swapped with an 1800kv hobbywing axe system.

I’m also going to be swapping out the savox 1256 for a 2290, it’s got way more torque than it will ever need
