STHA Toyota HiLux

hey!
New project I'm working on, another nice truck is coming soon...

For now, I'm taking it apart to grease everything, check all the screws, change the front axle (to put a k44), modify the suspensions, install few parts.
Then redo the body, make an interior and paint the driver.

After all this...I can drive :)

Subscribed. Waiting for my TF2 to be delivered (ie. also "late to the game"), so following as many TF2 build thread as I can, as knowledge from others is a very good thing.

It's moving forward...Slowly.

Installed: front bumper, rear bumper, body posts, winch, shocks, shafts, front axle, better servo...I think that's it!

I modified the suspensions, now it flexes properly. I can't test anything yet ... BUT I have a good feeling. Probably need another front leaf. I'll know once the electronic is installed.

While, I'm waiting for parts to come, I work on the body (more later...), interior and driver.

I want to keep the idea of my D90, but less crazy...
The bottom section and sides are all styrene. I kept this simple, as it will only be seen from outside even when I'll cut the windows to get a better look.

Driver and interior for the rc4wd Trail Finder 2 finished.
I used the factory dashboard + rc4wd bench, then built the bottom and sides section with styrene to fit the body.
I kept this simple as it won't seen to much once installed, but just enough to get the right feeling. Works pretty well I think.
Still working on the body paint, so we’ll need to wait before seeing all this together…

I like how the interior turned out! Great job!

I’ve been thinking about doing something similar for my Marlin. Now that I see it’s possible, I may give it a try!

I've got a few more upgrades planned for it, so I'll be updating the thread soon!

Great! Man, I learned tons of stuff reading this!!!
Didn't know that anti wrap thing to put in the back. Does it work as planned?
BTW, I'm fighting with my interior, all this electronic is giving so hard time, I don't know where to put all this, might have done this too small!!! BUT it has to work!
Tomorrow will be a new day full of new ideas...

The anti-wrap is a must have! I highly recommend it. It keeps the rear axle solid and will keep from twisting the rear leaf springs.

Electronics can be a pain in the butt sometimes. Where I put mine works out fairly well. I'm hoping once I build an interior that the electronics will not be in the way.

I'm sure with a little trial and error you'll find the right spot for electronics!:)

Yes I will find that sweet spot!
But for the moment I have the body to finish then I can focus on something else!!!

Re: STHA Toyota HiLux

The trail finder 2 is finished, I'm super happy with the results.

I went testing it today, it drives really well, a lot better than I expected.
I started with the RTR version.

First time with leaf springs for me, and I think I got the mods right as it flexes perfectly: I installed soft springs (3 front, 2 back) with o-rings and chino mod with 90mm shocks front & rear (No spring).

Body (painted with krylon pumpkin orange) with metal bumpers + metal sliders + metal roll bar+ winch.
K44 front axle + yota back axle with junfac shafts.
Wheels and tires are stock. They work well.
The truck is very stable, and compare to the D90 it's night and day.
2 different cars = 2 different driving styles!
I used the winch too. Fun :)

TF2 looks great!"thumbsup" Pics look awesome!

Nice color and great job on the weathering! I like the looks of that roll bar better than the Marlin roll bar. I may have to pick one of those up.

Trail Finder 2 weathering and paint details.
Base color is krylon pumpkin orange, then it’s a mix of washes and painted highlights to get the proper look.
Rust has a been done with steel wool sprayed with white vinegar and hydrogen and coarse salt peroxide that activates the rusting effect.
My goal was a car that has been used but not a wreck.
