Best option for replacing motor in TF2 Apologies first... I searched back some pages but missed finding the info. Anyway... TF2 Marlin Crawler with stock electronics aside from a direct power HH shv500 v2. I'd like some more "umph" in the wheel-spin dept and better torque obviously. I really don't feel like re-gearing with oem motor but I would be up to it on an upgraded motor if advised. Running 3S lipo btw. So... What's out there that's a direct drop-in and has a bit better performance than the stock rc4wd motor? I like HH stuff fwiw. Thanks very much |
Re: Best option for replacing motor in TF2 I'm running a 3660 3800kv brushless... Yes it is over powered at full throttle but I have things set where I'm mostly run at a 1/4 to half... And with the 2 speed trans and 13/64t gears it works well... Slow enough for rocks and all hell fast for mud and running away from my Daughter... Lol Sent from my moto g stylus using Tapatalk |
Re: Best option for replacing motor in TF2 1800kv fusion is perfect on 3s. That’s what I run and has amazing control and is plenty fast for scale with out distorting the drivetrain. |
Best option for replacing motor in TF2 I’ll second the Fusion. I don’t have one in a TF2 but I do have the 1800kv in my TRX4 and it’s pretty good for me on 2s. The fusion quickly became my favorite motor, granted it’s my first brushless so I assume there’s better. But for the price, I think it’s a great buy. The only thing I do wish they had was a 2300kv or so just for a little more speed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Best option for replacing motor in TF2 I'd just try a 27t HH Trailmaster Sport 550 can with a Hobbywing 1080. The Marlin isn't something I'd really mess with running brushless in, as I recommend keeping to scale (slower) speeds when trailing and crawling. |
Re: Best option for replacing motor in TF2 Yeah my mistake was not specifying in the OP that I can't be spending a lot of cash on this one. That fusion is well over $100 at amain and that ain't gonna fly with the wife nor can I justify spending that kinda coin on an RC motor atm. @durok or whoever else- I think I will go with the Trailmaster Sport 550 but is there any reason to necessarily HAVE to swap out the ESC when I put in the new HH motor? I have a wp1080 on the bench but was planning to throw that one into one of my trx4s. |
Re: Best option for replacing motor in TF2 You could always run the stock Outcry ESC for a while, it will take 3S - but there's not much info out there on it. I just like the programmability of the 1080. |
Re: Best option for replacing motor in TF2 Gotcha and thanks very much, durok. I'll stay with the Outcry for now. |
Re: Best option for replacing motor in TF2 I personally like the outcry. It’s simple, plug n play and decently smooth. I see no need to change it if you like it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Best option for replacing motor in TF2 Cool. I haven't run into any issues with the esc or rx on my tf2 yet but of course I don't run my tf2 as hard or as often as my linked rigs. Thanks SLN. |
Re: Best option for replacing motor in TF2 BTW if anyone can confirm- I honestly don't even know what oem spur is in the tf2 but whatever it is... I assume the 27t on the HH 550 will be a good combination? Thanks. |

Re: Best option for replacing motor in TF2 BogeysBrew- Much appreciated. Looks like 14/ 64 so I should be good. |

My buddy put a 21t in his single speed and its not much slower with his 14/64 on 2s. Hope that helps. |
Re: Best option for replacing motor in TF2 Quote:
Thanks much. I'm running 3S in this rig so hopefully the stock spur and pinion 14/ 64 will work well with the new 27t motor. |
