I'll go I guess. This was a winter project for a formula off road type sand truck with a WK base. No real good shots I live three hours from a beach. My fear is the trans getting stripped.

By installing this gearset, does it get rid of the stock internal "slipper"? What's the estimated price on them?

I'm definately in for a chance. Do you remember when you were a kid and put those things in the spokes of your bicycle so it would make the clicking sound? That's exactly how my tranny sounds!

Cool, but it looks like that spur gear is not detachable. I run a 72 tooth 32 pitch spur gear(that I am VERY happy with), am I screwed to use the stock upper shaft?

Ahh, I didn't notice that. Is that large gear on the topmost of the pic a spur gear? If so, it does look as though there is a through pin and the back of the spur is notched like the stock spur hub...so it should be easy enough to swap still.

Yeah, I see what you mean. It looks to be a 90 tooth. I use 32p gears also, so if the gear doesn't come off that hub, I'd have to go back to 48p. It may be alright though since they are hardened...I only went to 32p due to strength issues.

Im betting it comes off, see the top pic and the slot for the pin to fit in? all you need to do is to do is install a screw in the center of the shaft Im betting

Not a crawler but this is a monster project I've had on hold for awhile. It has TXT axles, custom tube chassis, delrin links, piggyback shocks, and topped off with a Bigfoot body(not in pic). I planned on using a Wheely King tranny until I heard about guys stripping gears. Your gears sound like the answer and I know this setup will test the durability.

Little update to dispel any rumors as to what you're actually getting when you
buy these gear sets from RC4WD. I ended up the lucky recipient of one of these
gear sets through the give-a-way so I thought I would post up some additional info.

First, weight...

Stock trans with all stock dressing and my 68t 32 pitch spur: 3.6oz
Trans with newly installed RC4WD gear set (with my spur gear & hub): 5.5oz
Trans with newly installed RC4WD gear set with the included steel spur: 7.0oz

Here's a pic that confirms the fact that the spur gear is indeed removable
from the shaft. The steel spur included does not use the stock plastic hub,
but rather has the "hub" portion built into the spur.

Here's a pic confirming that the stock plastic hub does fit
just fine on the new spur shaft in this kit.

Here's a pic showing the new gears nestled in the case ready for
a slathering of gear lube.

This pic shows everything buttoned up and the included steel spur
gear installed. It uses a 3mm screw through the center into the threaded
hollow of the shaft.

This pic shows the different output shaft lengths. Not real sure if I have it
in the correct direction, or if the long side should go out the opposite side to even
out the driveshaft lengths....but I figured it would keep the d-shaft yoke
way clear of the spur. This would allow you to run a very large spur gear if you so choose.

No run time on this yet...just did the install tonight, but it seems to spin real
smooth, especially with the gears all bathing in gear lube I'll try and get the
trans installed in something and get some testing done on it very soon.

When are you going to have more in stock? Also, I would like to know anyone's impression/opinion of how this upgrade is working for them.
