I'd make sure those extender plates are a decent thickness. With the frame stretched out like the bottom one...I think those extenders would want to twist under articulation and/or power (if someone threw alot of power at this truck), since that would be the weak point in the chassis...actually two weak points if you have both extended out like that.

I'm all for the idea, but I think it can be done in a much better way.

yeh i agree with 2jsc
maybe try over lapping the join on both halves of the frame or a removeble solid section

I think a good amount of strength would be added if the extension plates were a "c" instead of two flat plates.

That's gonna fold like a cheap tortilla. The bridge plates need to be made from C-channel. It's not a bad idea, but the execution needs work.

I think the extenders shouldn't be 2 plates. Make 3-4 seperate sized solid "bridges" that bolt up to the chassis the same way. This will eleviate weakness and any twist.

I'm really not sure about the idea too.
Wouldn't it be simple to sell 3 different chassis with, let's say 11, 12 and 13" options and then shackle post mounting option to fine tune the WB (+/- 3mm, 3 different holes for the moving shackle and 3 different shackle posts)

That's actually what you are doing with the Katan High Lift chassis (2 WB options), but it will be nice to sell it without the inner frame and the gearbox cover for people who don't own a HL, it's really a great looking scale chassis !

I'm never been a big fan of the Mirek chassis, it doesn't look like any real chassis (maybe I'm wrong).
I think you should keep the simple design (2 parrallel frames) and have 4 different shapes (Toyota, Jeep, Chevy and Land Rover for example) and each one with 2 or 3 different WB

My 2 cents

This is just a prototype. There will be plently of support. Once you see the final version it will be able to handle what you want to throw at it.

I know its a prototype, but I was wondering why the shock mounts have to be so......Obtrusive? I have a trailfinder, And I love it. Great chassis. Also, Is there a way to make the front leaf spring retainer the stationary one and the other side of the leaf the one that can swing? There seems to be alot more room behind the tire than infront (when the body is on) when the suspension moves through its path.

This is just a bad idea all around. Ditch it in a hurry. You are going to need 1/8" plate and then your screw holes are still so close that it is going to act poorly do to having to machine the chassis for a slip fit 3mm screw. With screw holes that close and not being a tapped hole you are going to exaggerate the slop. Just put it behind you and figure out a better option.

Good point on the leaf mount. Very good thought since the Jeep does have limited clearance under it. Mike also mentioned that they didn't like the shock mounts and were probably going to make them smaller.

I see your point Harley. Thanks for the tips. These help make better idea's and push the limits!

make the extendable section a box beam so that a set screw could be loosened up, the frame could be stretched out as needed then the set screws could snug everything back together, sort of the way a reciever hitch works.

Why not just offer the chassis in different lengths?

this is way to much effort for something like that...

X2, I think any way you do it, it's going to look like someone bought too short a chassis and lengthened it.
I'd just stick with the Trail Finder and offer it in a few different lengths.
