Default Project Bullet Proof Crawler

We are honored to work with Kerry Wittig (owner of Suzuki Only Supply in NY) on this special crawler project.

Here are some pictures of the full size Bullet Proof Crawler:

The goal is to build a 1:5 scale version of this crawler.

We are building the axle, transmission, wheels, suspension related parts for this truck.

The wheels on the full size is from Walker Evans (walkerevansracing.com). We will make one that looks very similar to that, with 14 bolts and black ring.

The axle will be a custom made straigh axle.

We will start posting CAD image and prototype pictures in the next 1-2 weeks.

Chassis will be build by Kerry's company. Hopefully one day he can make it available for the general public to purchase.

Our schedule is deliver all those parts to Kerry by mid December.

If you guys have any questions or suggestions, feel free to post here.

Kerry should be joining here soon too, in case you guys might have some questions about his full size crawler.

By the way thanks to all of the RCCrawler members that spent countless hours helping me make the right choices (I hope) and especially for "educating" me to what the hell is going on out there in the RC rockcrawling world. Kerry

Damn..........I still need LiPo's and a charger.........any suggestions?

I don't know if it is the same rig I didn't see the show. But I do know This rig was built at campbell ent. in arizona. If you look in the back groung you can see shannon campbell's two moon buggys. Those guys build some of the coolest 1:1 rigs I have seen. Plus they like to party As the Carnage crew found out last week at sema.

It is STILL at Campbell Ent......................this is now in the 15th month of construction............That's why I am about to construct a 1/5th scaler................I need to get my tuber fix at scale until Campbell completes the build ..................LOL

I am sure it will be worth the wait. Like I said they do some of the best work I have seen. If I wasn't a fabricator I would probly have them building my new car.

I know their work.........I was in fact drawn to Shannon and Nick after spending a few days with them at SLC Pro Nationals in 2005...............Never had to wrench on their vehicles, which Walker Evans and Tracy Jordan also run.........just drive and DRINK, and watch virtually every other team working frantically to repair and/or improve their rides................................I also have built a number of 1;1 crawlers, both for myself and others, and have a small company (SOS, Suzuki Only Supply) that manufacurers adapters for Toy and Zuk engines and trannies.............but I never have the time to build for ME, all my vehicles are always in a state of being used to R & D new parts that we are developing....so yes, Campbell was an obvious choice for me if I wanted quality along with cutting edge design. It's been a very good relationship, I send them the parts and they build, when they have time, in between UROC and XRRA events. Also this is somewhat of a very hands-on project for Shannon, he wants to be sure every single facet of the build is done correctly...........Since this chassis design is a pretty radical departure from what they normally do. By the way the other interesting aspect to this 1:1 build is that not only must the vehicle be UROC/WEROCK certified..............it needs to also be Street Legal..............Not an easy chore to accomplish by any means................Kerry

That is one of the most badazz tubers I've seen. "Street Legal", that would be freakin awesome!!!!!!!!! I would just drive around all day long for no reason. You definetly won't be driving in UT though, my toyota isn't even "technically" street legal, (it helps to be friends with the safety inspection people though, hehe). A 1:5 scale of that rig is going to be insane, especially with the list of customs parts it's going to be getting.

Well this now is NOT the ESC and motor combo I will be using..............just have it sitting on the shelf for maybe another project or place it on ebay.............It's a shame since I also got the updated rotor and heat sink

Spoke with Mr. Holmes and he had some interesting info and a few excellent suggestions that he thought might be a "better" way to go.............Foremost was that the Hyperion/Mamba combo will have excellent/superior braking capabilities..............
So a Hyperion outrunner along with a Mamba ESC is on the way........

Need some suggestion for sourcing................I Need two 6v linear regulators for the servos..............any ideas?

Kerry

By the way what are the dimensions of the axle housings you will be supplying?Width knuckle to knuckle, as well as dimension from outside of wheel to wheel..........My reasoning is that the 1:1 is 49" inside and 74" outside.........................1/5th scale therefore being 9.8" and 14.8" respectively...........

Also could you please send me a drawing of the wheel you will produce for this project previous to me commiting to the design and/or purchase?

Thanks, Kerry

I would check these out:
http://www.maxxprod.com/mpi/mpi-21.html
I run the ACC134, and have never had any problems with it. You might want to look into the HD model, though.

Thanks for the link.........very helpful. Why might I need the HD models?
Granted the Servos I am using are the following specs.............

Type: Super Torque
Torque: 320 oz/in @ 6V
Speed: .15 sec/60 degrees @ 6V
Dimensions (WxLxH): 1.59 x 0.83 x 1.50 in
Weight: 2.2 oz
Gears: Metal Gears

Weight is an issue here................4 oz. versus 1.4 oz. for the HD...........An additional 2 oz. i.e. 1/8th of a lb. extra!!!!!
