shootout possible entry

got this from my sis hope i can get it going in time for the shootout i am trying to get my friend to go in it with me it is a 41 willy's couple with a 16 inch wheelbase planning on a tekin brushless with maybe a 6 cell this thing is almost as big as a baja hopefully the size won't hurt too much i think that the weight might help keep this from wheeling not sure if i will enter the contest yet until i can get my friend to help cause he has most of the power source.http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/h...simi/011-1.jpg

i still have to design a chassis for it got the front end kinda figured out it is the rear i am having problems with i have the motor mount but can't figure out the axle i need the gear with the axle and the hubs not sure if anybody makes an axle that wide the dragster axles are too narrow if anybody has any suggestions that would be helpfull i am going to try and run 2.2 tires i took some rock lizards and sanded down the sides all of this might not work but i am going to try it anyway ,just for the cool factor.

you can get aluminum hubs that press onto the axle, so you should be able to get the correct diameter rod in stainless and press the hubs onto it, and then its as long as you need it to be. how wide does it need to be??? i know the car i started with (parma goodtimes chassis) has a fairly wide rear axle that i had to narrow. as for the rock lizards, those things are gonna balloon big time, id recommend some foam tires, although finding some foams that large could be an issue. the parma hemi coupe tires are 3.2" tall and 2" wide.

for a car that large i dont think 6 cells is going to work too well. as far as the comp goes, having a brushless motor means you cant run sportsman (6 cell class), so your at a big disadvantage. however if you throw a brushed motor in on 6 cells i think you would win by default lol. if you can run 12 cells, to get a large heavy car moving your going to need to gear quite low, however without the high rpm the extra voltage will create your top speed will be limited.

thanks for all the info i saw the hubs but how do you mount the wheels ?do you bolt the wheels to the hubs? also i meant to say 6 cell lipo two 3 cell packs.

Sharkey 11-11-2009 10:32 AM

the wheels bolt to the hubs with 2 or 4 bolts. you need specific wheels to fit, all the stuff is designed off 1/12 scale pan car.

i will take pics today ,the body i got from my sister i think it was bought in L.A. at a toy shop i think i still have the box i will check for a manufacturer the rest is custom made yesterday my friend came over and started helping me come up with a rearend we ended up making one out of his jammin rearend then he cut and welded the driveshafts the front was also made from scratch he thinks it looks kinda cheesey but i think it will work we ended up using the truggy tires they look preety good it looks like a topfuel dragster with huge rear tires ,we are trying to build something that can handle 4 cell lipo and a huge tekin motor just need a pinion.

i found some info on the willy's it is a '41 willy's coupe made by eztec no.95207 i think it was bought at big lots.

Toys R Us sold them a few yrs ago. Full interior and trunk. Big and heavy. They came in two colors ( frequency ) .. candy red and blue. I flat blacked one as a old school. Ditched the bumpers, etc. Billions of little screws. Doors and deck lid work. Even has lights. Think of a New Bright hotrod and you're there ..... lol. A friend and I used to drink beer and drag race them at night at the NW Street Rods Nats. Whoever got the light won. If memory serves, I think they were about $60.

took the car apart and did some sanding and repainted it i think it looks cool with 6 cell lipo this thing is uncontrolable eventhough it weighs about 15lbs or more .

Got any more of the drivetrain?

Looks pretty good so far, but 15lbs? Have you weighed it? Mine comes in just a hair over 4 lbs, and that includes the 1 lb battery.

warriorsimi 11-15-2009 09:50 PM

i haven't weighed it but just the body is probably four lbs, this car has a 16 inch wheelbase chassis is 1/4 inch thick alluminum by 3 inches wide, with truggy tires on dish wheels i will try and look for more pics.
