shootout possible entry

got this from my sis hope i can get it going in time for the shootout i am trying to get my friend to go in it with me it is a 41 willy's couple with a 16 inch wheelbase planning on a tekin brushless with maybe a 6 cell this thing is almost as big as a baja hopefully the size won't hurt too much i think that the weight might help keep this from wheeling not sure if i will enter the contest yet until i can get my friend to help cause he has most of the power source.http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/h...simi/011-1.jpg

i still have to design a chassis for it got the front end kinda figured out it is the rear i am having problems with i have the motor mount but can't figure out the axle i need the gear with the axle and the hubs not sure if anybody makes an axle that wide the dragster axles are too narrow if anybody has any suggestions that would be helpfull i am going to try and run 2.2 tires i took some rock lizards and sanded down the sides all of this might not work but i am going to try it anyway ,just for the cool factor.

Sharkey 11-10-2009 11:50 PM

you can get aluminum hubs that press onto the axle, so you should be able to get the correct diameter rod in stainless and press the hubs onto it, and then its as long as you need it to be. how wide does it need to be??? i know the car i started with (parma goodtimes chassis) has a fairly wide rear axle that i had to narrow. as for the rock lizards, those things are gonna balloon big time, id recommend some foam tires, although finding some foams that large could be an issue. the parma hemi coupe tires are 3.2" tall and 2" wide.

for a car that large i dont think 6 cells is going to work too well. as far as the comp goes, having a brushless motor means you cant run sportsman (6 cell class), so your at a big disadvantage. however if you throw a brushed motor in on 6 cells i think you would win by default lol. if you can run 12 cells, to get a large heavy car moving your going to need to gear quite low, however without the high rpm the extra voltage will create your top speed will be limited.

warriorsimi 11-11-2009 10:03 AM

thanks for all the info i saw the hubs but how do you mount the wheels ?do you bolt the wheels to the hubs? also i meant to say 6 cell lipo two 3 cell packs.

Sharkey 11-11-2009 10:32 AM

the wheels bolt to the hubs with 2 or 4 bolts. you need specific wheels to fit, all the stuff is designed off 1/12 scale pan car.

more info about the car! body? interior? fake motor? wheels/tires? manufactures? all custom?

more BIG pics!!!!!!!!

warriorsimi 11-12-2009 09:28 AM

i will take pics today ,the body i got from my sister i think it was bought in L.A. at a toy shop i think i still have the box i will check for a manufacturer the rest is custom made yesterday my friend came over and started helping me come up with a rearend we ended up making one out of his jammin rearend then he cut and welded the driveshafts the front was also made from scratch he thinks it looks kinda cheesey but i think it will work we ended up using the truggy tires they look preety good it looks like a topfuel dragster with huge rear tires ,we are trying to build something that can handle 4 cell lipo and a huge tekin motor just need a pinion.

warriorsimi 11-12-2009 10:01 AM

i found some info on the willy's it is a '41 willy's coupe made by eztec no.95207 i think it was bought at big lots.

Toys R Us sold them a few yrs ago. Full interior and trunk. Big and heavy. They came in two colors ( frequency ) .. candy red and blue. I flat blacked one as a old school. Ditched the bumpers, etc. Billions of little screws. Doors and deck lid work. Even has lights. Think of a New Bright hotrod and you're there ..... lol. A friend and I used to drink beer and drag race them at night at the NW Street Rods Nats. Whoever got the light won. If memory serves, I think they were about $60.

warriorsimi 11-14-2009 03:12 AM

i got 22.2 volts with a tekin rx8 brushless with a 2600kv motor with truggy tires wearing down to slicks can't go past half throttle ,stock candy red color with a xxxt frontend ,handmade custom rearend including custom center diff and custom locker all hand made .pics coming soon also including driver and interior hopefully some video as soon as it stops snowing.:-P

spyderwebbcustoms 11-15-2009 07:30 AM

cool start on the center diff and rearend

warriorsimi 11-15-2009 04:50 PM

took the car apart and did some sanding and repainted it i think it looks cool with 6 cell lipo this thing is uncontrolable eventhough it weighs about 15lbs or more .

Duuuuuuuude 11-15-2009 09:28 PM

Got any more of the drivetrain?

Looks pretty good so far, but 15lbs? Have you weighed it? Mine comes in just a hair over 4 lbs, and that includes the 1 lb battery.

warriorsimi 11-15-2009 09:50 PM

i haven't weighed it but just the body is probably four lbs, this car has a 16 inch wheelbase chassis is 1/4 inch thick alluminum by 3 inches wide, with truggy tires on dish wheels i will try and look for more pics.

all custom made by my friend and i mostly him but we got it done, after making the driveshafts we had to make a locker ,removed the spider gears and welded two output cups together to lock the diff .

Duuuuuuuude 11-15-2009 10:25 PM

Thats cool man, can't wait to see it run.

You really should resize your pics. Its hard to steal design ideas with everything so small.

warriorsimi 11-15-2009 11:07 PM

yeah not too good on the computer i should of taken pics of the inside of the diff .it is a blast to drive specially when you take off the front goes up for a little bit then comes down like a real top fueler hopefully i can get some video soon.

Duuuuuuuude 11-16-2009 10:06 PM

No wonder it weighs 15lbs, that thing is huge! I was gonna say it'd be a shame to wreck it, but it looks like you beat me to it...lol.

Thats cool man, get some video! "thumbsup"

vonclod 11-16-2009 10:58 PM

thats awsome man..wish i could find one of those wal mart willy,s
agian, very cool build"thumbsup"

warriorsimi 11-16-2009 11:07 PM

it has been wrecked a few times the rear tires when they balloned actually rubbed through the rear fenders i did a little body work on it then repainted it ,it wheelies on command and still can't go full throttle on it cause we run out of room got some video today just can't seem to be able to upload it ,my friend nickposted up the pics that's why they are bigger still trying to figure out the camera for video.

Duuuuuuuude 11-16-2009 11:26 PM

It may be too late now, but if you line the inside of the tires with reinforced packing tape they won't ballon. At least they won't untill the tape lets go.

vonclod 11-16-2009 11:42 PM

cool look forward to some vid:twisted:..not sure if us canucks are gonna get a break in the weather to get a proper run in..been pretty chitty for a couple weeks and not looking nice this week at all.flood warning type stuff

warriorsimi 11-16-2009 11:48 PM

it's not that bad i had the tires too close to the fenders got it raised up now it don't rub just would like to get a speed run out of it but it's getting preety cold only about 38 degrees during the day got video but will try and post it tomorrow it's only hooking up about 40 % or less of the power if i gun it it starts coming around itself. kinda cool though.
