Bastard Jr. Feedback, Support, & FAQ

Just wanted to start this thread for you guys that have any questions or comments about your new chassis.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Why is it called the Bastard Jr.?
A: Chassis designer Aaron Dusenbury of Team Carnage Crew wanted to make a scale version of his 2008 XRRA Championship-winning full-size Rock Racer named Bastard Jr. Here's an article and a couple photos of the 1:1 rig: http://www.dirtnewz.com/rock-pressre...c-8-4-08.shtml

Q: What kind of axles can I use for the Bastard Jr.?
A: It is made as an AX-10 conversion but other axles can certainly be used.

Q: What transmission should I use?
A: The stock axial skid plate bolts directly into the frame.

Q: What length links do I use for my Bastard Jr.?
A: For a competition legal 12.5" Wheelbase 2.2 you can use all your stock AX-10 Links.

Q: What shocks can I use?
A: I have used stock Axials, Traxxas Big Bores, and Losi Crawler shocks. All work great when setup correctly.

Q: What are the dimensions of the chassis?
A: Length: 9" ~ Width: 3.37" ~ Height: 3.72"

Q: Will the Bastard Jr. fit onto a Losi MRC?
A: Not without a considerable amount of modification but the wheelbase and 1.9s look killer on this chassis.

Q: Is the Bastard Jr. made of Tubing or Solid Rod?
A: It is welded solid rod.

Q: How heavy is the bare chassis?
A: 6oz.

Q: Is the chassis competition legal?
A: Yes, it meets USRCCA dimension requirements for a bodiless rig.

Q: Will the DNA Dig unit fit?
A: Yes but their servo mount will not. You will need to mount a servo to the chassis in another location. (See below for photos)

Q: Will a Holmes Hobbies Cobalt Motor fit?
A: No the longest motor that will fit is a Novak Goat.

Q: Is there any kind of replacement policy if I happen to break a weld on the chassis?
A: Yes, please strip all parts off your chassis and send it to us, we'll send you a replacement.

Q: Are spare body panels available?
A: Once the initial demand has been filled we will have extra panels for sale.

Q: Will aftermarket option parts be available?
A: Yes we are pulling the 1:1 hood with the scoop and they will be available on our site as soon as we get them. We could also make a servo plate for a dig servo is the demand is there.

Here's mine all setup with the DNA Dig. As mentioned the servo mount won't fit inside the chassis. (Not that I recommend using a small servo anyways) I made a delrin plate to bolt up between the rear shock mounts and zip-tie in the front. This works well and is about the only place where there is room to mount this. Unfortunately the clearances are so tight with the DNA dig mounted, you can see I had to mount all my rear links externally.

good thread...

however i still have questions.
i am planing on building a 1.9 class comp rig with my bastard and i was wondering if you could measure from shock mount to shock mount to have an idea if it will work with the 8.5" wheelbase

Rockpiledriver 11-26-2008 09:34 PM

Shock spacing side to side is 2 1/4"

front to back is 8 3/8"

Could you post some starting points for shock tuning? Something for a base setup.

How would this chassis work with Berg axles? Looks really sweet!

Thanks for the pics and info...now I have to order one ;-)

One question though...what's the belly clearence with drooped Big Bores all around?

Drive shaft angles look pretty steep in the first pic. Thanks "thumbsup"

I have a question why does the chassis apear to have the cab or cockpit offset to one side. Just something that bugged me about it. But i do like the chassis alot.

I think the 1st question in this thread answers that.
It's modeled after a 1:1 rig

Dez, I think my candy girl knows your candy girl

Rockpiledriver 12-16-2008 09:40 PM

The hoods are still a few weeks off. That's my best guess.

rockbender 12-21-2008 01:26 AM

I have another Question, What links are used for the top rear? Supposed to be a bolt on kit for Ax-10. Those are not stock rear uppers 3 or 4 link length.
