Recon G6 prep list?

Well it has all been decided and my son(7) and myself are of to the Super SeriesMega-Cup Intergalactic Nationals of the Universe Recon G6.

Being our first event in the crawler world the only thing I know about it is what I have read. Does anyone want to share what type of extra parts or recovery equipment they carry?

So far here is what I have on my list.
  • Winch
  • Batteries
    • between the two rigs I have 4 2200mah lipos. I plan on getting another 4. How many mah should be sufficient for a full day. I do have a marine battery and a lipo charger that will run off of it.
    • Batts for the transmitter.
  • Land anchor
  • Tow straps.
    • I normally make my own rope so I can make straps with finished eyes at any length. Suggestions on sizes?
  • Spare set of tires/wheels
  • Spare driveshaft
  • Left over stock chubs, carriers, ect from upgrading to aluminum.
  • Assorted hardware
Things I am considering
  • Sand ladders
  • Extra set of links. Since I make my own its not any extra expense, so it cant hurt to have them.
  • Spare motor and servo, again I have it why not bring it.
Tool
  • Hex drivers
  • plier/wirecutters
  • Little portable soldering iron
  • shrinkwrap/nylon ties
  • jb wield/superglue
  • UV cure fiberglass
Any suggestions on this to bring along would be welcome, as well as recommendations on what to actually carry on my person.

The rod ends are what usually brake.

Re: Recon G6 prep list?

I nut and bolt my entire rig a couple weeks prior to my event. If I find something that needs to be addressed, I have time to get parts and make the repair. I also bring spares. I bring stock front axle set ups, as well as c hubs and knuckles if you're running plastic parts still. A spare drive line, two spur gears, pinion gears, extra radio batteries are also in my pack. Tools, I bring my allen drivers, small zip ties, needle nose pliers, my wheel wrench, and my dykes. I fasten a Bind plug to my body mount clips.... you just never know. I carry my tow chain in my pocket for quick access. I have also been know to pack an extra set of wheels/tires, just in case my go to's aren't working out. For batteries, I carry four for my rig. I run 2200 and 2600mah 3s packs. I've never needed more than 3 per day as of yet. Basically I just try to anticipate anything that can and will go wrong, and pack for it. I have a G6 in two weeks, and I've done a lot to my rig this winter. The nice thing is I know it's been gone thru, and much of it is new or newer. Good luck, have fun.

I'm also in the same boat here, super intergalactic blah blah blah will be my first g6 style event. As far as repairs, does everything need to be done on the trail? If you snap a shaft do you need to have said parts on hand or can you go back to camp? I know to bring common tools and extra batteries with you but all these spares too?

Re: Recon G6 prep list?

No, you can walk back to your vehicle, or camp to make repairs. I've just found it easier to do it on the trail, since it's usually a pretty good walk back. I believe Parker calls that the walk of shame LOL

I carry almost a whole rig in spare parts in my backpack.
Never know what may break or who may need some help with something they didnt bring.

Extra batteries...Headlamp for nightstage
You can repair anywhere you wish,on trail or back at camp.
Just return to where you broke down and start again.

Accessorize your rig they way you wish.
Winch will be used,sandramps,tow strap..
Any extra items Parker recommends or event requires.

Comfortable shoes,hat,towel,snacks,water/drinks.

Fun will be had, just relax and enjoy the fellow nerdfest! :lmao:
Its all about fun and sharing the adventure!

Re: Recon G6 prep list?

I've been to two G6s and I havent ever seen anyone use the sand ramps but a winch, a couple tow straps, and a land anchor are definitely handy.

Aside from the spare parts that have been mentioned, definitely be sure to bring comfortable shoes, extra TX batteries, water, and snacks. I'll be buying some hiking shoes/boots before my next G6. Long hours walking on rocks can lead to sore feet if you have crappy shoes.

BTW If you have Axial CVs be sure to bring spare pins.

Re: Recon G6 prep list?

I have never been to this event but have to smaller local stuff saying this it would be similar to a g6. So I have 2 3000mha packs for my son will that be enough for the day run only we can't stay for the night event. At the local stuff he normally just uses one battery.

I have been using the Official Servo of the RECON G6, the Holmes Hobbies BLS 500. I've beaten on this thing with no ill effects.

Do work, Driver & have FUN!!!

Batteries!

We have no idea how awesome this area is, but i've heard miles of hiking trails!!!

If you can't make trail repairs, by all means, head back to your camp to make repairs. This is an adventure.

Sand Ramps are some of the most useful functioning scale accessories. They are used to span gaps or lessen the approach angle of a vertical ledge.

I know the West Coast and Europe uses them hardcore. I love sand ramps and some stage obstacles are set just for sand ramps.

I am getting pumped for this first ever East Coast Event!!!

Come out and get your scale adventure fix with Pit Bull Tires & the RECON G6!

This is an awesome thread for people like me who are planning their first adventure in the G6 world. I have a question though, are there vendors selling parts at these events?

I saw on FB that there is at least one vendor that will be there selling scale items, I also got the impression that Pitbull will have products there but I don't know if there are offering them for sale.

I know I'm bringing a fist full of dollars incase there is. My LHS doesn't carry crawler parts and I am hoping to see some stuff in person and do some shopping. If not Ill just blow it on swag.
