Default finished my four link, on to the shocks!

well, got the four link done, shaved the batt tray and made plastic skid strips, wow, what a difference!

On to the shocks, ordered Losi shock rods, they look longer than the rs10 ones, but look like they'll fit. white springs too, has anyone used the white springs yet??

Got some white losi springs on mine...and I'm running what I consider to be clones of losi shocks. I love them.

cool.... I figured the springs will be good, we'll see if the longer shock rods work...

Awesome...are you planning on keeping your shocks mounted to the links or mounting them to the axles? If you mount them to the axles and they're not long enough...you could fab up some chassis extensions pretty easily.

I would like to mount them to the axles, however, they're way too short right now. I think with longer shock rods, and different weight springs, things should work OK. as it sits now, you can't do a whole lot with the stock shocks, the best set-up it seems with the stock ones is pretty well where they are..

I removed the front and back chassis brace in order to move the shock mount up. It seemed to make a difference. I don't know if you have done that yet but it could get you the extra length to get to the axles. I am setting my up with venom shocks. They seem quite a bit longer that the stocks. When I get my build fabbed up. I will post picks so people can pick on me for how stupid of an idea it was.

Ya, I already tried that, I found with the shox up forward, and with the spring rate as it is, it was too stiff, and i would roll over way too easily.

Also found that if I mounted the shox off the axle, and on the forward most holes, I would loose too much clearance for my liking.

Yeah unfortunately mounting the shocks to the axles doesn't seem to work well with the stock chassis. It works remarkably well on an aftermarket or custom chassis, though.

got my 4" Losi shocks on, some tweaking with the lower links, but seems to work! field testing was great! shocks leaked some, so i refilled them and tightened them up a bit more, see if they dry up!

i mounted my shocks on the axle. i ran my links in the original spot on the axle. i then cut out shock brackets out of aluminum for the axle and mounted it to the outside closest to the tire. shock bolts right up to that. i dont have much luck with losi shocks, any of em. the ones in my mini t leak, 1/10 dt leak, my losi shocks on my other rig leak. i think its a losi thing...lol . they have leaked since new. people run em upside down, to cut down on the leakage i guess and lower the cog. your rigs lookin good though

if you still have the end ball links from the original batwing setup, you might be able to thread them on the end of the shock to gain extra ride height. those end link fittings are pretty long.

haha, already done! I used the batwing ends on the shocks, then had something to screw the links to. worked good, and gave me an extra bit of length. also drilled out the upper shock bushings, and installed it on the rod to raise the lower spring cap for clearance. I lost out on some travel, but I don't seem to miss it.

Rig's lookin good Cam. You should type up a mini-tutorial of the shock mounts you made for the chassis and pm it to me. I'll add it to the tips and tricks first post so it'll hopefully help some folks out. A picture of the actual mount itself would be helpful too.

will do, thanks for the props!

The chassis mounts are acually traxxas revo rod ends, which fit through the losi shock. I am a bit of a pack rat, I found some spacers and fit them over the rest of the protruding rod end, and used some left-over screws to affix them to the shock. If you prefered, you could cut the protruding rod end and use shorter screws. It would look cleaner this way. On the tip of the chassis I drilled 3mm holes, to affix the ball end of the rod end. I found you can dramatically alter the angle of the shock for front and rear reactions.

I'll take close ups in the morning

nh, she's all redcat! I have lost the batwing and 3link, changed motors to banebots, shaved the batt tray and installed skid strips, axial 30 deg lower links, and now Losi 4" shocks. Most of my mods are homebrew, the nut and bolt section of the LHS is my favorite place! I wrapped a whole bunch of solder around the front rims too, not sure how much, but it seems to work. Proline chisel 5.4's hide the lead.
