A question on the metal Vs. plastic gears?
 

Have you spun a plastic gear?
and if so under what conditions.

I ask this because everyone wants them ( me included) but is there a need?

I have seen two guys running 540's and a few running 400's ALL with plastic gears.

SO is this a must or I just want them thing?

throw me your comments, ideas. or rock @ me!!

I havent stripped a single gear so I'm not sure we need them

Have I spun a plastic gear? Sorta...only about 3-4 teeth were damaged and it still ran, but the gears skipped a slight bit. It was enough to be annoying. I had a little too much fun playing around full throttle in the dirt with my motors. They've held up fine after replacing them.

I'm running 540's ate the first set like 5yr. old sucking down a Hershey bar.. 2nd set is holding up but I have to keep the mesh tighter than I like .. nobody NEEDs them h3LL nobody NEEds an RC . but..:ror:

i know that my brother put his motor on too tightly, and it caused the gears to strip alittle, but i would get mine caught up and tourqe it out with no problem. i haven't had n e issues, but u might when u start cranken on it with the 540 size motors!!!

i dont think they would be needed, but it adds to the durability. as long as you are responsible with the throttle and not trigger happy, i would think they would hold up fine. i bet in most cases of stripped gears are hammering it from foward to reverse, or trying to unbind a tire with the power. there's always the possibility of hopping it on a hill trying to get up.also to much weight in the tires. these motors have more torque then you would think. more so 540's and pullers. my axial will pull my 2 year old daughter weighting in at 28 lbs around sitting in a sled on carpet. that equals a blown spur ten minutes later. now thats hard on parts. im surprised the spur lasted that long.my axial is far more stronger then the rs10. the spur is the only plastic part in the drive train. either way im in on the metal gears for the rs10 regardless. i dont see any issues with the plastic gears. plastic will only handle so much power as well as metal will.
