Default Dig and rear steer?

I want to keep rear steering but I want dig as well

What radio do I need? (I prefer Pistol Type) and what other parts do I need? Esc,s? Recievers? or anything like that?

Also I ordered the MOA electronic rocker dig from ZNO-RC
I haven't recieved it yet and may not be able to use it for what I'm wanting but any help, tips, or ideas would be greatly appreciated, Thanks guys

One question...why? Dig allows you to lock either the front or rear wheels and position your rig a little more precisely...you can do practically the same thing with rear steer and even position your rig in different ways (such as the crab walk steering mode). So having both is a bit pointless, in my opinion. If you're wanting to use the dig you picked up, you'll need a 3 channel radio with a 3 position switch, such as a spectrum dx3e or modded traxxas tq3. The stock ESC will handle the dig just fine.

You will need a 4 channel radio and receiver with programmable buttons. The rear steer and dig will both give a turning advantage but the dig will also help in hill descends and climbing vertical ledges. Having multiple steering modes will also help allot with vehicle placement where a dig would be useless. I feel having both would be a great combo.

If you plan on comping with it, 4WS isnt gonna cut it......but, if you are just bashing about all of them would be cool.

Yea I'm not gonna comp it anytime soon but I have rear lock out on the way in case I decide to one day.

Is there any links or write ups on how to mod a controller or a 4ch controller that can do what i'm wanting it to do?

Thanks for the help

I would post up a thread in the electronics section of the forum, or snoop around in there and I'm sure those guys have either ran a similar setup or know how. I'm thinking some of the more expensive radio's could do that kind of setup, but maybe they can confirm that.

What are the disadvantages of 4ws in a comp? I'm still a noob when it comes to this RC crawling stuff... so I'm hoping to learn why dig is better than 4ws.

4 wheel steering isn't allowed in comps at all, except in the super class I think...that's why a lot of guys don't run it. Dig, however, is allowed.

Ahhh I see! That's kinda lame since 4 wheel steer seems to be pretty hot in 1:1 rigs!

I might do the same setup since I only need the 4 channel radio and punk steering unit. Even if you comp just dont use rear wheel steer. But the setup will definitely rock. The electronics are good products so you can put them in a bully or berg later if you feel you need to go that route. For the dig to work good and strong I would do the 540 swap it will cost you you about 35.00 and some time with a dremel.

I would like to do a 540 swap but I think I'm gonna see how the hh454s do first

You still need .125 pinion sets about $10 + 40 per hh motor not to mention shipping. I hear good things about 454. I played with 380-390 cans to try and save but the 540 cans rock! especially for 10.00 a piece. If you have a dremel you might consider 540. Do you have steel gears? I like this forum because it will save your money threw others trial and errors.

there is a guy from santa cruz who used plastic gears on 454 for a year. It does depend on driving style. if you like to muscle instead of crawl then steel gears are a must!

I've been running plastic gears on 13 turn cobalt puller motors for over a year and have only stripped one set of the plastic gears. It was also my fault that I stripped them, I got a little too heavy with the throttle finger. Since then I've replaced them with new plastic gears and haven't had a problem. I'll put metal gears in eventually, but for right now mine are holding up ok.

To my knowledge nobody has successfully used dig on the stock radio. If you can figure out a way to make the 3rd channel a 3 position switch setup, it might be possible.
