where to spend my money first??? I'm planning on ordering my redcat tomorrow. I can do the simple fab projects myself but there are thing I cant fab, such as electronics, batteries, servos and tires. I have only a few extra dollars a month to spend on up grades. Where should I spend my money first. |
Re: where to spend my money first??? My $.02. Make sure you get the 2.4GHz Rockslide, would be worth the extra spend up front. Then do a search and you'll find everyone does tires and servos to start. 7.4V two cell lipo are cheap these days. Would go that route as well. The Rockslide is a good way to get into the hobby, but the more you read and the more photos you look at, the more money you'll spend trying to make it something other than a Rockslide. |
Re: where to spend my money first??? servos, that is the only thing i would tell a new owner to upgrade out of the box. run some packs through it, figure out the direction you want to go, MOA scaler, Comp crawler and so forth, then set your plan for upgrade from there. take your time, have fun and don;t get in over your head, better to be wanting for upgrades rather then to be wanting to be crawling. |

Re: where to spend my money first??? Servos by far, then a battery charger is a good second upgrade. Yes, the stock tires do suck, but the stock battery charger is horrible. In terms of a charger, it's better to shell out $50 or so to get one that can charge lipos too, so that when/if you make that transition you won't have to buy a second charger. After that, just upgrade as you make plans of the direction you want to go, or as you break things. |
Re: where to spend my money first??? Thanks for the advise guys.who makes a low budget charger worth buying? |

Re: where to spend my money first??? Try ebay for the imax...$35 or so...make sure u get the power source also. |
Re: where to spend my money first??? Well I orders my redcat from a store on eBay for $140.00 with free shipping. Not bad. Oh wait, after I go through all the crap to set up an eBay and pay pal accout and by the truck, I get an email saying the truck is on back order for at least 30 day. Subjug! I asked for my money back. We will see what happens. |
Re: where to spend my money first??? For those of you with the Imax chargers, how long does it take to charge a stock battery compared to a lipo? |
Re: where to spend my money first??? Wickedwolfrc on here has them for $135 shipped stock battery charged in under an hour with the imax...but id just spend $10 and get a 2s lipo to replace the stock battery. |

B3AC 2S/3S Lipo Balance Charger - Black (AC 100~240V) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme Used this type of 2s basic charger for years for helis. Nothing fancy or programable, but they work and cheap. Between the truck, helis, and flashlights I'm running the Skycharger 6200, which for $50 is the best hobby charger going (200W) IMO. But for $10, the DX one linked above will do the trick and no 12V power supply needed. |
Re: where to spend my money first??? The Rockslide is a good way to get into the hobby, but the more you read and the more photos you look at, the more money you'll spend trying to make it something other than a Rockslide.[/QUOTE] best advice ive seen on the RS10 thread yet, with all the cash i dumped into mine i could have gotten something better. now i have a Wraith and an SCX10, and im still pissed of all the cash i put into the Cat for something that it would never be. good luck and spend wisely. |
Re: where to spend my money first??? Most places that advertise the RS10 don't have them in stock and there's no stock in the Redcat warehouse for the dropshippers. I ran into that 4 or 5 times before I found one in stock somewhere a couple days ago. RS10XT #2 will be here Monday so I have something to drive while I build a custom high end rig. |
Re: where to spend my money first??? servos is my opinion bc ya can cut the tires, cut or remove the foams, and the batteries well that will naturally come in time and if ya really want another battery im sure some one one here has a stock one sitting around taking up space im sure theyed be willing to get rid of for cheap"thumbsup" |
Re: where to spend my money first??? spend the money to get new tires first they will give you the biggest improvement on the stock rig. then servos, u can get cheap metal gear servos about 20 bucks each. white dot rovers are the way to go for tires imo. |
