Default Built TUBE STYLE for the little man

So im a lurker here for some time. built an rs-10 last year. sold it. bought another with the 8 yr old in mind for X-Mass. rs-10 xt was nice to see the factory changes. blah blah blah same story as the rest.

here are the specs.

Integy Tube Frame/chassis
AX-10 derlin skid plate
Diff pin swap - duhh!
RC4WD Crusher tire set w/ 3oz. in each front. none in the rear
Xr10 shocks - needed for the extention
Tower Pro MG995 Servos front and rear. 4WS for the fun not a comp rig
reconfigured electronics tray w/ orig. shock screws and nuts to secure. then tiki hut stule zip ties. keeping an eye on those.
banebots are in the tool bag and ill set them up when the little trigger finger gets to know the rig. and 3s lipo and cut off alarm are on the way soon.
i know im forgetting things.... now for pics. sorry for the grainy ones ill get some video and hope it comes out well.

the chassis is great! you can see in the first pics how the upper link tucks in to the "hood" area when i had the stock shocks bolted up. not too many options for mounting the links. it sits at 13" wheelbase as you see it. i would like to do high clearance links and shorten it up. the back of the servo gets really close to the shock because i did the axle mount set up. the only screws that are not stock are the link/shock area and the skid plate/link area. i needed longer screws to get through and mount it all up. i would like to try a scx-10 skidplate to see if it works and better..

the 8yr old is going to help to make body panels and paint them himself. give him a sense of ownership for his new "toy". ill post the progress steps along the way.
video will be up soon.

This frame came from Integy as you see it, made for the AX-10. i have seen some on rc-recycler.com that have side panels ready to rock for less than new!
if you wanted to weld your own i would suggest 3/16 steel round bar...??? but thats just a guess. aluminum would be lighter but a little harder to work with. i have seen mini tube benders that are nice to use for uniform bends. my buddy across town has one ill hit him up for more info and get back to ya!

Anybody in the Monterey California area want to meet up at lovers point area sometime?

[/IMG]Im usiing that chassis, but im not using a skid plate.I took the stock electronics plate and mounted with zip ties half up the chassis cavity. Then i mounted the links on the inside of the chassis using a 10 mm spacer between the link and the inner chassis wall.

Your set-up is looking nice. What are your plans for the battery? front axle lipo with alarm?

I used the same chassis with high clearance links mounted on the inside of the chassis with 10mm spacers. Everthing worked out great except for the fact my servos in the stock position hit the axle mounted shocks, so I did a little grinding on the servo mount and used longer screws and some of the 10mm spacers to move the servos forward. Looked good and they were solid as a rock. Only problem is when I steer the servos and mount flex quite a bit. It doesn’t really affect the steering, but I know it isn’t right and I don’t like it. How did you address this issue? It looks like to me you might have experienced the same. Problem because it appears you moved your servos forward a little too. It looks like you used different servo mounts

I made my own some time ago, turned out pretty solid:
Beefier RS10 servo mounts?
