Default Most vague shock question ever

I know this is an almost impossible question to answer so call it more of a judgement call.

My son wants a to turn his rs10 into a southern style rock bouncer for Christmas. (He is hooked since the 540 swap)

So I did like any sane man and got on here and searched.
I found the Mickey's tuber build, and promptly ordered an Integy chassis.

Now to the question/opinion poll. His shocks are junk, they leaked all the oil out before it arrived (loose caps) and have been abused since.

What I need is opinions on shocks for the following setup (first mock up, wife would kill me) :

those boggers are huge!

I would like to shock build mounts on the axles if possible, but he wants this for for Christmas and I would like to have all the parts on hand.

So what shocks should I buy? In your opinion. lol I have looked till I am sick. I would like to not spend too much $$$$ either. I probably should have mentioned that earlier.

And one more issure is his radio and receiver are 27mhz and have no range at all. I have a modded q3, but he likes the redcat remote's functions (kis are crazy). Does anyone know where I could find a newer model 2.4 digital radio and receiver?

Are you happy with the length of the stock shocks? Do you need longer or shorter? It's hard to beat traxxas big bores. They don't leak and are super smooth. But they offer several different lengths.

Thanks guys I will give them a look. I am thinking the length will be 100 to 120mm.

I like all my G-mades, I just put some Teflon tap in the caps and glandes when I assemble.

I have a set of G-transitions and set of Piggy backs.

My dad has a set of the silver bodied Coil overs, I can't remember the model name.

never ran the big bores but a ton of people love them on everything from clod crawlers to Wraiths.

Go with a hacked GT-3 (B or C) affordable, expandable, customizeable.

OK, found a set of big bores for a good price. The radio issue seems to have stopped, but I doubt it will fix itself. I am not that lucky.

He really likes the stock controller (I find it annoying), and I was going to try and get him a factory rs10 2.4 tx and rx.

Oh and by the way the 540 swap continues to impress. He has beat on it hard and (knock on wood) have had no problems at all.

what does he like about it?????

show him a GT-3 (B or C) and then show him what it can do hacked.

dual ESC, 4ws, front/rear winch that is 6 channels and it can do 8!

then put in the voltage regulator and throw in a 2s lipo and he will not have to worry about power on the hand held for days.

Great idea, Doc!

He likes being able to toggle through the different steering modes, which is what I dislike about it. I have a tq3 modded to operate rear steer with a toggle switch and like it very much, but I am old school.

I will show him a hacked GT-3 and see if I can't get him interested, it would be a much better setup!

Thanks

you can set the GT-3's to use the trim buttons for functions. the mode toggle is cool, but not realistic when you are on teh trail. stopping, clicking a button X times to get the mode and then going can cost you a line or a part.
